How many active collections are you working on?

Although I've heard that one should specialize in numismatics for many years, I seem to struggle with this concept. I have two very active collections, Washington Quarters and Walkers. I also dabble in quarter eagles, buffalo nickels, and standing liberty quarters. Not to mention the Dansco album collections. I've tried to thin the herd by selling off dupes and lesser graded coins. I find it tough to liquidate coins/collections just to focus on a series or two.

What say you?

Never collected a specific type though I favor silver dollars, half dimes and nineteenth century proofs.

Just pick up coins that I like.

I have a PCGS 1965-2014 proof Roosevelt set that's complete, a PCGS MS Ike set that I've dabbled in, and about 12 PCGS Morgans and other misc coins. For Dansco's, I have complete Roosevelt, Kennedy, and Ike/SBA. My Washington is just missing the 32DS and I JUST started putting together a type set Dansco of Commemoratives.

Four. But I'm pretty much done with three except for the occasional upgrade.

    I ignore everything else.

    Mostly 2, Walkers and Ikes.

I get restless when I can't find an upgrade/addition for 6 months though.

Finished my Washington Quarter set last month (probably the sixth one I've put together). Waiting for the right AU 1895-O and my budget to match up to finish off an AU/MS New Orleans Morgan set. Finished 20th Century Canadian Cent and Nickel sets for the grandkids back in the spring, just VF-AU. After that it'll probably be back to hoarding semi-keys/better dates in best affordable grades, any series.

My focus lately has been on IHC proofs, but I am always open to a great type coin. I just keep plodding along........

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Four: 1858 business strike, 1893 proof (no gold), Franklins and 1940 - 1964 Washingtons. The Franklin set is complete, although I'll still upgrade it if something nice comes along. I'm also doing two Dansco sets that are raw variants of the Franklin and 1940 - 1964 Washington sets.

    Four.
First there is the 7070 type album.
Next is the 1932-1964 Washington quarters basic set biz and Proof.
    Thirdly, an album of IHC's.
Finally anything that peaks my interest. Like certain classic commems, picked up a Proof IHC, etc.

    1. A coin for each British king so far as possible
    2. Twenty Cent Pieces - cannot find an 1875-P in Mint State with original surfaces
    3. Charlotte Mint type set - stuck on the 1838-C half eagle
    4. Type I gold dollar set - still need an 1852-P image
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I mostly TRY to add to my Bust Series coins, but lately the prices are simply out of my range for what I want. I dabble in the Indian Quarter and Half Eagles. Most of my purchases lately have been in Classic Commemoratives. The rest of my collection gets no current improvement.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

I have 4. I have 'completed' Franklins in FBL and Peace dollars, and I am working on Mercury dimes in FB and O mint mark Morgans. I float between upgrading the completed and adding to the incomplete based on funds and material available. Sometimes I put it all away for a while and just drink.

3 sets. Canadian silver dollars, Canadian loonies, Franklin date set. Plus an occasional commem with original/period packaging when I can find them.

I am slowly assembling a set of antique electrotypes (not with any degree of seriousness), US large cents, and classic US numismatic literature. Regarding numismatic collectibles, I buy what strikes my fancy and seems reasonably priced (although I occasionally violate the latter), and have what looks like a totally unfocused collection to others. And I don't care.

In decades past, I actively collected a variety of sets, including 19th -century Austro-German commemorative thalers, Swiss shooting thalers, Barber halves, Standing Liberty quarters, 1936-1942 proof coins, colonials (specialty type set), fractional currency, British sovereign type set (by monarch and mint). I sold most of these pieces years ago.
