What did "good ole Mr. Wilson" collect?

From the Dennis the Menace T.V. show . Mr. Wilson was the neighbor who Dennis used to bug. I remember he was a coin collector. Does anyone remember what he collected?

Wow!!! Less than 11 months....I guess it's true, it IS the short term memory that goes first!!

Oddly enough, you think about this at the same time of the year...hmmmmm, I wonder what that means??? Is there a psychiatrist on the boards who can analyze this???
    I'll come up with something.

(Clearly I watched too much TV as a child!)

Mr. Wilson had an 1895 Morgan Dollar that he bought from his neighbor (after trying to swindle it from Dennis) -- I think he bought it for a few hundred dollars from Miss Cathcart.

He also acquired a 1907 Ten Dollar Gold Piece with wire rims and periods that he bought for $300 I think, but it turned out to be fake.

Dennis did give Mr Wilson a 1914-D Lincoln that Dennis found checking the change from parking meters (or something like that)

He collection was pretty varied -- he seemed to like very low mintage coins of any type or series (just a rare coin collector, and did not focus on a series)

The one I remember seeing when I was kid concerned one of the rare 1907 $10 gold piece varieties. I can't remember if it was the rounded or wire rim variety. The two things I do remember was that the guy who sold it to him turned out to be a crook and the coin was a counterfeit. That had Mr. Wilson heading off for some more "nerve medicine" which was a usual occurrence. I vaguely remember seeing the coin at the bottom of fountain, which might have had something to do with Dennis.

I also remember were Mr. Wilson had a tray of coins balanced on the side of couch. Dennis when running by an knocked it over which had all that coins clanging on the floor. That would have sent me running for MY nerve medicine.

I also remember a Confederate note, it must have been $50, that Dennis found. Mr. Wilson offered Dennis too little money. When Mr. Wilson looked at the note, Jefferson Davis was frowning at him until he offered a decent price.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I'm watching the episode "A Quiet Evening" on the local television station.

Mr. Wilson gets stuck babysitting Dennis, and the two neighbor kids, Margaret and Seymour.
Mr. Wilson keeps showing off his 1919-D Dime worth $100. Unfortunately, they show a Barber Dime, not a Mercury Dime.
Seymour uses the dime to buy some candy and Mr. Wilson breaks into the candy machine.
Needless to say, Mr. Wilson get arrested. Funny episode.

I'm confused on why they would used the wrong coin.
Why not use a real 1919-D Mercury dime?
Was a 1919-D Mercury worth $100 at the time?

    Thanks,

    Chris
