Personally, I couldn't care less. The sport does nothing for me.
While we're on the subject of soccer......
I've never witnessed such a group of cry-baby, fake-injury-acting bunch of softies in my entire life.
The whole sport is corrupt from the players to the manager to the refs and to the organizers of the sport.
Sorry, but I'll take hockey, football, baseball and basketball where real athletes when they get hurt don't roll around on the grass crying and they're right back in there on the next play.

I don't think Americans ever did care about soccer. What we have just witnessed was an intense media campaign to popularize the sport. The media moguls can fill lots of time and sell lots of expensive commercials if they can add another sport to their schedules.
Still, I thought the final game was one of the worst in this year's cup. Messy and unspectacular performances by both teams, who seemed to be playing not to lose, rather than to win. There were much better matches in the earlier rounds.
Sport themes and coins have often been linked, so it is not that off-topic. And if you hated it, the World Cup won't be a bother for another four years.

Seems like I was just watching a NBA Finals basketball game when Dwayne Wade acted like he was hit in the face. Got the foul, but he was not touched.
Generally, I would like to see FIFA clean up that aspect of the game. Also the faking of injuries when your ahead and time is running out.
I have embraced soccer since both children played through High School. Once you understand the subtleties of the game, it is enjoyable to watch, as the rest of the world will attest.

True, but the hockey refs are cracking down bigtime on the 'faking' of injuries in hockey by evidence of the many penalties given for the known 'actors' on the ice.
The higher ups in hockey definitely do not want this acting trend to escalate and are doing everything to stop it.
Soccer on the other hand is different.
The 'acting' is much ingrained within the soccer culture.
You can see this faking of injuries in a game of 10 year olds at your local soccer field.
It could easily be stopped if the higher ups brought in instant replay and penalized the player severely for this.

I've really had enough from the xenophobes here. If you don't understand the sport, fine. If you aren't interested in understanding or watching it, fine. But don't trash what you just don't get. If you want a really boring sport, try to watch baseball or golf (I'd rather prep for a colonoscopy), or try to watch the thirty minutes of American football spliced into the three hour time slot, mixed in with moronic hype and endless commercials. No thank you.
I played futébol - soccer - starting from when I was a kid through when I was a young adult. Back then, I was the only American kid out there; foreign friends taught me how to play the game. I have seen a number of games when I was in Brasil, Mexico, and Turkey. If you want to begin to understand the passion of the game, if you have the opportunity to go abroad, check out a game. Anywhere.
I cannot begin to describe what it is like playing goalkeeper, being involved in a game tied 0-0 in stoppage time when an offensive player from the other team plays a through ball and is coming at you seven yards out, it's just you and him, and the game depends on whether you can stop that shot (I did).
You have to be fit to play. The clock continues to tick. Play is stopped for an injury, that increases the stoppage time at the end of the 45 minute half. Diving is a problem. Good officials card divers, not so good officials award free kicks. A vicious foul, coming in spikes up, and you're out with a red card; your side has to play the rest of the game a man short, which usually means your side will lose.
The important matches come down to which team makes the fewest mistakes. Among the better teams, this often means a 1-0 game, sometimes extra time, and sometimes, unfortunately, penalty kicks. The Germans won this championship because they made fewer mistakes. Higuaín missed a sitter in front of the goal, and was needlessly offside (he knew where he was) when he scored Argentina's goal which was appropriately called back. The Argentine sub with the weird hair also missed a sitter. Germany had bad luck when a shot hit the goalpost.
The German goal came on a good through ball where the guy who scored the goal was not marked properly, giving him an opening. Zabaleta and Mascherano, the Argentine defenders, will not get the credit they deserve the their performances in this match.
There is a good reason why this is the world's most popular sport. Deal with it.

Soccer is not the most watched sport in the US. It ranks fifth behind football, baseball, basketball and ice hockey. Football ranks 9th globally. Interestingly, American football has the highest average stadium attendance in the world.

So your idea of excitement is to watch some crybabies run around a field for an hour or so and score one goal, hey more power to you if you can do that without falling asleep. But this is a free country and everyone has the right to free speech, you don't like my opinion thats fine... Deal with it.
