Where did people discuss coins online before this forum existed?

I was going through some boxes in storage yesterday and found some papers where I had written out my user ID and passwords from my oldest online activities.
In my case I first began going online in the 80's through Compuserve and Delphi . I was not collecting coins at that point of my life so I have no idea were people discussing coins on those 2 services.
Does anyone here remember talking coins on compuserve , delphi, AOL , prodigy or smaller BBS's ?

When did the eBay bulletin board close? I remember the conversations there. It's
where the Savannah Scammer was first exposed, I believe, and there was always
a wide range of interesting discussions and opinions.

Coppercoins won a local art competition for a new quarter design that I informally set up at that old site (we were all anticipating the onset of the state quarters series). He won hands down with a spectacular design, that I remember featured an eagle with embracing wings surrounding much of the rim. Wish I'd kept a copy of the drawing. (CC's quite an artist, as you all may be aware).

I'm not completely sure when it closed. I frequented (every day) that board until about 2002, then got busy with other endeavors. About three years later I checked in and it was still there, but quite inactive by comparison. Back in the hey-day we could roll over a 200 post board inside of two hours. Last time I checked the 200 posts went back about three weeks. At some point over the last five years or so they shut down all the 'chat' boards in lieu of the 'message' boards.
I do know that I was inactive there when I joined this forum.

I was leaving messages on boards as early as '92 but not regularly.
Before that I used snail mail and had hundreds of correspondants and letters
to the editor. There were also lots of coin shops and coin shows to talk coins.

The Usenet still exists. Unfortunately, they are dominated by spambots now. Rarely does a human venture there any more. Mostly it is bots replying and following the links of other bots. Maybe someone can write a short story on that theme. There is fiction about people being "uploaded." Certainly a forum personality could be done with existing technology and modest cost. That way the login could continue to communicate long after the body is gone. It would be most useful for experts, but a few people might find some comfort in knowing their online life continues after their earthly life finishes. Strange? Yes strange, but there are some very strange people out there.
The Usenet wiki says is started in 1980. Rec collecting coins probably was most popular during the late to mid-1990s when AOL's dialup service was growing by leaps and bounds. The height of AOL was in 2000 when it was bought by Time Warner (talk about poor investments).

Forgot to add; When starting out on my first computer late 1990's, I had it set it to actually talk live with other collectors over the internet.
The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
