Baltimore First Pitch Coins
No threads about the 4 hour lines to wait for coins at the show???
What do you guys think of the prices for these? they are sky rocketing to the moon. Will the prices stay high like the Reverse Proof Buffalos (The Baltimore release only)
I think the prices will stay high, particularly for the gold since they only release 250 Uncs and 250 Proofs.

I would be under obligation to do so, so yes I would have paid $4k.

Amazing!
I sold a show special SET of ATS $5 gold 70's on EBay yesterday for $3800. I think I could have gotten more but who could complain about that?
(This was, of course, not my Son's set. We're keeping all of the coins from his first purchase hopefully to stay in the family permanently.)
My wife and I each bought the full allotment as well.
Lucked out w/the $5 gold - all six got 70's including the proof and UNC PCGS 70's, photos of which were posted for me on Friday by another forum member.
I think there will be a good number of 70's in gold and silver. The clads will be tougher.
Also, there were 200 of each gold, not 250 sold by the Mint in Balto. I was told this directly by the senior Mint official there.
"Pricing is sliding already on feepay dumps by sellers that think they're catching the wave. Rumor is that Coin Vault will start the dollar proofs in 70 at $500 on Monday. That will put a ceiling on the dollar pricing. I see that TNFC is swinging for the fences with a $5k BIN on the gold proof but there's already sales in the $2k range. I more than paid for the show with multiple flips from walk ups on boxes pieces."
Rumor is that Coin Vault will start the dollar proofs in 70 at $500 on Monday.
I highly doubt that coin vault will sell these things for anything less than $650.00

Nice score. One can always say to themselves -I could have gotten more. But like they say - no one ever lost money by selling at a
profit. And its always better to sell on a rising market.

70's from which TPG?

Very true. No complaints at all. Buyer seemed very happy as well. Win/win.
"70's from which TPG?"
There are really only the two....NGC & PCGS So I'd say either but we all know that PCGS's go for a higher price.

Thanks Wondercoin.
When I submitted the $5s to PCGS I never thought that both would be 70s. I had thought that on the off chance that one was that I'd flip it. I knew that there would be a prime window when only Balto coins would be on Ebay w/the gold sold out and none of the non-Balto coins delivered yet. Once I got the coins back I couldn't believe that both were 70s. Unfortunately, I so love how they look - the gold in the PCGS holders looks incredible - that I really don't want to sell them. I was also thinking that there will be very, very few $5 PCGS Show special coins: only 200 of each finish sold, say 50% get graded, say 50/50 PCGS/ATS, 60% 70's (??) = very few! Still, if they bring $5K + EACH might have to sell. Could likely get another PCGS 70FS set down the line and still have $ for the kid's 529's left over. We'll see.
One thing's for sure: this is a GREAT time to sell on Ebay. With the "Savebig" promotion for sellers w/Ebay stores and the FVF capped @ $100 my FVF on the ATS 70 set that I sold was only 2.5%!!!

There was plenty of time to chat with others in line to be sure.
From the small sample size of just those near us, it seemed that the majority were not there for the quick flip - initially. Shortly after the sales started and the dealers were casing the line with offers - $750 - $1000 instant profit on a full allotment I saw a lot of sales.
And she knows crazy...
Hoard the keys.
So many we had to ship a lot back to the office.
I know of at least one dealer who bought several hundred of these at the show".
Yet I saw reports of only 200-250 (each) gold. Wonder what the actual show sales were.

I think that they're speaking of silver and clad. There were 3K silver (2K proof and 1K unc) + 2K clad (1K of each finish) sold in Balto.

BTW, love your Avitar. That's one of my favorite coins series ever.
Can only imagine what the PCGS ones will bring.
(Would of course never mention any active listing for an item of mine. Thought that those following this series would be interested in what the clad 70s are bringing.)
Should any HOF coins grading less than "68" be labeled, Foul Tip ???
Scuffed Ball
Vasolined
Milk Spots on the silver versions = Spitters ???
Commemorative Clad PCGS MS 70s are very difficult. It seems from the prevalence of the 70s for these first pitch coins comes from the fact that these are the first minted and greater care was taken with these coins. The mint doesn't offer first sales (first minted) of clads at coin shows often.
Down the line, when they start churning the clad MS out, it may not be the case for easy MS70s. Of course could be totally wrong if there are large submissions for these later on maybe because of the popularity than previous low interest commem ms clads.

PCGS MS70 Clad...395.00 BIN...and they sold all 10 offered.....AND they sold all 10 PR70 offered ALSO....
That is WAAAAY too much money. The only reason to pay that would be if you wanted to be the first person on your block to have one. I'll wait for the piece I ordered to come form the mint, which might be by the All-Star break.

Yep, that's my attitude. For those who think that these prices will last forever, I'll point to the Statue of Liberty $5 gold, which usually sells for melt. In 1986 the $5 gold sold for over $450. I bought a six piece set in the wooden box for $155 circa 2000.

Interesting buyers...
I have a couple of ATS clad 70s up now. Neglected to put "Ultra Cameo" in the text of the ad. Got two emails asking if they are UC despite that it says exactly that on the label.

<< <i>Bill: A more recent example ... they camped out overnight in freezing weather to get the first year ATB "hockey pucks". Those who dumped them quickly made great (in some cases obscene) profits. Those who bought them essentially got wiped out for the most part. My daughter (who loved them) thought she got a great deal on a pop top set of 69DCAM coins when she got them for half (50%) of what they had been selling for just a few weeks earlier. She then watched them "half" (go down another 50%) again from there. I gave her the money back (100%) she paid for the set in exchange for her promise to remember that deal and to never buy into the hype. She has not wanted to own another coin since then (which I think is going on 3+ years now).
As always, just my 2 cents.

Very well said.
The point about your daughter not wanting another coin is very powerful.
I remember when the first set of PCGS MS69DMPLs sold for $10K.
That said, I think that the HOF coins in the Balto holders will hold their value better over time. Perhaps not at today's levels, but I can't imagine them crashing as hard as the pucks did. This issue has far broader appeal. Also, the Chicago ANA RP Buffs show no sign of dropping - that label still holds nearly (incredibly) a 100% premium over regular FS.
As with anything, there is risk.
Actually, prices are down roughly 15%+ in the past 60-90 days. Pops have also moved up sharply as well from the initial ANA show. This has hurt prices a bit as well. I assume NGC coins have been crossing to PCGS to explain the rising pops. Otherwise, if memory serves me right, the (2) grading services are closing in on having graded close to as many total coins than the US Mint even brought to the ANA show!
Anyone have the NGC pop numbers now that can be added to the PCGS pop numbers to compare against the roughly 2,000 - 2,500 estimated coins brought to the event by the US Mint?
As always, just my 2 cents.

Hi Wondercoin-
You are (as usual) correct.
I should have been more careful in my wording: the ANA Buffs still retain a very substantial premium. Just about everything drops a bit from the peak, but these are still doing very well. It will be interesting to see where they go.
Another interesting comparison is the Canadian Superman gold coin. It has a high minitage for Canadian gold. Canadian gold commems sell from the RCM for massive premiums over spot relative to that of U.S. Gold commems. I passed on this one being about .25 oz of gold for $700ish at issue. This was mid to late last year. They still bring $1400 - $1700 raw. Popular, high demand issue much like the HOF I think.
Anyway, I try to learn well from my mistakes. I had the pucks early. I sold some for nice profits. However, when I think of some of the offers that I turned down - thousands for a single puck worth a couple hundred now - it makes me sick. Got killed to a lesser extent on the '06 W burnished plats as well. Should have sold some when they were bringing crazy money.
I have been beyond lucky with these HOF coins. First and foremost was my Son getting the first coins sold of the issue - he was the first to buy each of the HOF coins. The fun and the experience that came along with that is beyond priceless!! He says that it was one of if not the best day of his life. That's worth more than all of my coins combined a thousand times over.
Beyond that, I was able to get three full allotments in Balto + some silver proofs on Friday. I had them all graded and got tons of 70s. I was just about first out of the gate selling the Balto lables on Ebay Friday night. The last one that I'm selling now closes tonight (as I wanted to spread my initial sales over a few days as I didn't know where prices were going.) In the end, as of tonight I'll have sold about 2/3's of my wife and mine's allotment and only one of the three gold 70 sets (I'm of course keeping Cole's entire full allotment intact). With the after tax proceeds from these sales I've managed to fully pay for all three full allotments, the grading for all of the coins and still have some $ in profit left over. This still leaves me with some silver and clad 70s to sell if the market heats up more in addition to a PCGS 70 gold set which I may still sell - debating as I just love how that set looks.
I had no intentions of getting pucked again. If the market goes up more, great. I've been so blessed with this issue I'm happy no matter what it does. One thing is for sure: I had no intention of holding these only to see them drop. Not this time.
What an incredible few days it's been!
