It can be great for any number of reasons. Rare, Top Pop, a Cherrypick you are proud of, a Monster Toner, your most prized, something that has fantastic sentimental value, one that took you years to find or acquire, one that you saved up for for a long period of time, has a great strike, wonderful luster, maybe it is a coin that got away, maybe a coin from Coin Facts,
maybe one that you sold and wished you had back.....it does not matter the reason, post a GREAT COIN and why it is great to you.
Hopefully this thread takes off as I would really like to see some wonderful coins in here.

I will show two that are great to me.

1931-S DDO FS-101 PCGS MS66FB.
A better date for the Mercury Dime Series.
I acquired it for regular 66FB price at the time and the price guide has been adjusted up quite dramatically recently.
I think it has wonderful luster and great eye appeal. It is tied top pop for the variety.
Unlike some of my coins, I feel this is absolutely problem free for the grade.

1935-S RPM FS-501 PCGS MS67.
Fantastic online Cherrypick. Great luster and eye appeal. New Top Pop by two points.

This token meets none of your requested requirements, but I like it nonetheless for the designer's creativity, that it's a piece of old copper, and that it brings a smile to my face when I look at it.

going through my archives looking for a file that shoulda been easy to find, yet isn't for some reason and came across this one. i think from last year. should be a little closer to the "great coin" requirement than the previous 2?

My point was that different things are great for different reasons to different people. I thought that was clear. Oh well, I tried.

Lance- I like flashy Franklins very much. What is going on there? Is it sitting on a mirror? Saints are a GREAT design. I certainly don't own one but I will one day!

Catbert, really cool token design that I like very much. If I were the owner, I think it would bring a smile to my face as well.

The three coins that got me started collecting toned Lincolns and Indians 19 years ago... just got them slabbed a couple years back

This is one of the finest known Aegina staters and most likely a presentation piece: they simply don't ever come with this large of a planchet (a bit smaller than a US half dollar). These coins were minted in 380BC and the staters of Aegina were the first true international trade dollars. Aegina was Athens' rival and was the greatest sea power of the ancient world. They developed a consistent weight standard which allowed their coins to be used internationally, and they circulated across thousands of miles and for hundreds of years. Contrary to this, note that this is a land tortoise: earlier types were distinctly a sea turtle but Aegina branched out into land trade as well, hence the transition to a land tortoise.

I saved and looked for a very long time for a super toned example of this one but never could
find one. I went to a local coin show one day and my boyfriend brought me over to a table to
show me a SCD and when I looked down in the case........it was there, sitting ever so quietly and calling my name
I was so excited I thought I was going to faint

To this day I have never seen another that can hold a candle to this one.

Great is a tough standard -- Cardinal, TDN and Boiler have "great" coins. I have some some that are special to me, however. I've posted these before, but if I had to do a box of five from my present collection, these two would be in it:

Wow, this thread is a blast from the past. I had my old Merc Variety set when I started this thread. Sold that set, took a break, built a set of 1950-1964 Proof Toners, sold that set, took a break and am now back to Mercs.

Here's a coin that I have, like and haven't posted on the forum for at least a few weeks. Lol
