A Perfect Coin from the CRO Archives

CatbertCatbert Posts: 8,182 ✭✭✭✭✭
After receiving the CRO early bird email this morning, I decided to once again peruse the CRO website and in particular the archives section.

Oh, how the heart flutters at seeing such beauty! For those who have never visited (perhaps a few here?), you simply must go and see coins like this:

Of the many incredible specimens there, I chose the above to post here (and hope John doesn't mind) because it is a glorious representation of a type coin so beloved by many as one of the classic design greats of all time.

There are a number of beautifully toned coins in the CRO archives. I wish more dealers would maintain an archive as well.

That's a stunner for sure. You can always count on CRO to have incredibly eye appealing coins. A stroll through their current offerings and archive is always enjoyable and worth the time. Great stuff!!

Mainly because coins are designed by committee and must be PC and sell something (for the most part). That is a well struck coin.... Cheers, RickO

    That is a beauty.

Should "CRO Archive" carry the same weight as a plate coin?

There are definitely some great coins in the CRO Archives. Although this A. Bechtler gold dollar didn't make the Archives, it's one of my favorite purchases from CRO. The images are courtesy of CoinFacts.

I agree. It's nice to have good and easy-to-navigate archives. Given the quality of CRO's coins, it would be nice if all their sold coins were in their archive image

After the run of "theme" quarters wraps up I'd like to see the return either of the SLQ reverse or the Bicentennial

I owned that SLQ once upon a time. Not quite sure why it is still not in my collection.

Thanks for bringing back an old friend to visit with. image

Might be kinda cool if CRO would let archive coin owners opt into a "make me an offer" kind of thing, like HA's. Either for a small commission or as an enhancement for their customers (or both). Just a thought image

It's like seeing 2 very old girlfriends, but unlike FB they are still recognizable imageimage

I originally found the OP example for etexmike's now defunct type set and coinlieutenant's example was formally in my personal non error 20th century type set image

Thanks for the post Catbert since I haven't been able to find a SLQ to buy in 6 months (not for the lack of trying) it was nice seeing both of these! image

Resurrecting a 3 year old thread of mine since I was once again viewing the archive. So much eye candy and I see that the SLQ is no longer displayed :(@Broadstruck you've got to find one of equal caliber for me someday.

However my colorful Frankie is there and am glad to see it alongside other lovelies (until John replaces it)!

I have the fortunate luck to have one of their early gold coins from the archive dept. Didn't purchase the coin directly from them, but from someone who acquired the coin post-CRO stint. Fabulous photography work on their part. I think Todd did a pretty bang-up job too... Merry Christmas all.
