  I gave this 1909-S VDB the benefit of doubt since the photo / scan was taken through a flip. My mind tells me that it is 99.5 % a counterfeit, but for those who did bid on this auction, I hope that it is not.

  Not even close, it is a fake despite the fact that I could not get a close-up picture. This is a joke.

  Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

  Scratches are on the coin, right? If you didn't think it was fake before, the scratches are a dead giveaway. Someone deliberately defaced it because it's fake.

  Fake IMO...
  Those scratches are horrendous and the s is too large for starters..,
  Terrible images, even at that I vote FAkE.
