35-D newP Buff

While my buff set has been essentially complete for a while, I still can't help myself from pursing the cases, and yesterday at Baltimore was no exception. My first-go at the set was focused on strike, perhaps excessively so. Now that I've stepped back a bit, I find other things that can peak my interest and other aspects of a piece for me to find eye appeal in. Thus was the case for this piece. The other one I own came in an 63 OGH, and had a better strike. Images from Todd, I think he got the colors and overall look down, albeit perhaps sacrificing some detail on both strike and nicks. I haven't posted a newP in some time, so feel free to comment.

I think it's a nice 63, should green bean.

The strike is just average for the grade IMO.

my opinion is nice coin and very nice halo coloring. Would not mind owning it my self.

Looks 64 at least. This date/mm is often dark in color and has some of the poorest strikes for Buffalos from the 30's.

I can't muster a rationale for trying to CAC a $75 coin, which, if successful, would make it worth $95. If unsuccessful--oops.
Thats a beautiful piece, though. The luster is exceptional.

Our hosts graded this a 64, although I had to pay a tad over retail to get it. The piece is a bit bitter struck than the images suggest, although I'd still give it average to perhaps slightly better than average for the date/MM/grade. If you step up to 65 at X2+ the price, better struck pieces seem pretty prevalent. I can't see luster holding this one back. The surfaces on the obverse are really nice, with very clean fields, and I attribute most 'dings' on the devices, and above the braid in particular, to uncompressed planchet. There are more minor dings on the reverse, across the buffalo, some of which aren't uncompressed planchet, but none of which are terribly bothersome and certainly acceptable for the grade. What makes this coin IMO is the color and overall look, and if I keep stumbling across pieces like this, my set will never be done.
