Question to you guys on "detail" graded coins....and the POP report.

I don't know how to do a poll.....but here are my feelings:
There are a lot of detail coins now. I have a lot of varieties that are detail graded because of QC...
Anyway I think they should be included in the Pops. It's misleading when you go to check on a certain variety and none show, but there could be some.
Bottom line to me they are coins in holders and in Registry Sets......and SHOULD be in the Pops.
What say ye.

Looking for Top Pop Mercury Dime Varieties & High Grade Mercury Dime Toners.
The more we can welcome collectors, the more we will be able to grow the hobby. Detail coins are no threat to anyone and allow for many varieties and other similar coins to be collected and displayed to fellow collectors.
My question would be, if you had a Det-6 Chain Cent, and you could not afford it otherwise, why not recognize it?
I also concur with adding them in a special category in the population reports. I only see positive things and no negative ones from this.
I'm shocked.....you (mozin) of all people should know that some varieties are impossible to find problem free.
Besides some detail coins like QC should be graded, but the graders just blew it!!!
this has been extensively discussed/debated/analyzed etc and after it all, my take on it is that too many detail coins get cracked out for the pops to be of any use, even worse than they are now.
i would love it to be useful and a reality but alas, it cannot be.
MAYBE if every coin were to be imaged and if a coin appeared more than once, subsequent subs for it would be deleted but it seems they are only doing it partly as it is.
i don't know if it is a salary thing or is it just that hard to find someone intelligent, experienced, available, trustworthy, focused etc to do the job.
it is doable...
lets say 1 billion images (1,000,000,000) with a max file size of 750k which could be reduced to below 500k if needed with a resolution of say 900x900 or 1200x1200. that would give some estimates as to the storage requirements and if it weren't made public, there would be little to no bandwidth requirements, only integration into the current databases. can't imagine any one category would be over say, 10k or 20k images which could be auto-searched with smart technology to prevent duplicates and very basic info assigned to that image file like a cert number/date etc, maybe a note or 2.
seems simple enough, just very time consuming (expensive salary?)
.
more to collecting coins than amassing the most "points".
Given that backdrop, I favor including genuine coins in the Registry. I guess I also favor having them in the
population report, although it would seem to consume a lot of screen real estate, so that is less clear cut.
Maybe they could be on a separate tab.
Just my $.02.
The TPGs used to body bag coins but seems like now they are putting them in holders with
THEIR opinion of the coin. Ya can't put a bay in a Reg set or pop list but a holdered coin with
what ever it's graded should be I think.
A simplistic view. Maybe it's more complex. I don't know.

<< <i> And I think all coins should show in the pop report....somewhere. >>
I agree, it's not like they don't exist. I own lots of "detail " coins, especially nicely retoned 92 coins. I just purchased a number of code 97 large cents from the Ellsworth die state collection auction. They arrived the other day, a couple look awesome and until I put them under my scope can I see any sign of porosity, a few have minor porosity but are still very sharp, I wouldn't throw them out of bed-LOL. They are R-2/3 coins that I could not afford or even find on a good day otherwise and they still exist in my collection. It would be nice to see them in the Pop report, just for analytical value. I don't play the registry game so that is not an issue for me.
<< <i>The POP reports are false info because of all the crack-out's so who really cares about faulty info? >>
The one thing that POP reports can do for you is give you an idea as to whether or not something is possible in a given grade. For example if you are looking for a coin in MS-64, there are only three or four in the POP report, you may as well forget it, UNLESS, you spot one and you like it. Then it's time to POUNCE because you know that the opportunity might not come again.
