just picked this up on ebay. So did I score ""UPDATED INFORMATION""

RACC
I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

Hoard the keys.
They say it's the actual coin.
Notice that they didn't write the date on the flip, maybe they miss-read the coins date as a 23 while listing?
Hope it works out!

Keep us posted... These things are fun!
Even polished, if a 28- that's a score!
Assuming it's not an altered 28-s.. Have to double check the diagnostics when in hand.

Undoubtedly, the coin in the picture has a 1928 date.

Hope it's a '28 for you!
Why did the other bidders stop at $60?
<< <i>I do not think it's a 1928. Most 1923s have a two loops that nearly close in the middle. I believe glare is a playing a role in making it look more like an 8 than a 3. >>

Why did they go to $60 ? Could be $60 is about what a cull 28 is worth ?
I thought for sure I was going to score a 28 in a lot of Peace $'s awhile back...no sich luck. Those 23's can be super decieving !
My Early Large Cents
Here's my question... if it arrives and ends up being a 1923, are you going to return it since you got exactly what was advertised?

IMO yes.

No. They're just bad pictures, like those in all the other auctions of problem, common date dollars that seller has had. The title and description clearly saying "1923", both written by the only person with in-hand knowledge of the coin, are also pretty good indicators that it's probably a 1923. Congrats to the seller on getting triple what this coin is worth.

Hoard the keys.
for the 1923 is noticeably flared, while the base of the 2 for the 1928 is mostly straight. The e-bay image
shows a noticeably flared base of the 2. Definitely a 1923. Sorry. I think the seller scored.

Hate to say it, but I agree with this. You really have to stare at it, like you're 'Looking for Elmo', to see it's a '23. It's one of those that if you get too hot too quickly, you can convince yourself it is what you hope it to be, and that is the coin is described improperly. In a rush, some might take a chance, others wouldn't. I wouldn't have unless the images were more conclusive that the coin imaged was definitely a '28, which this seller did not provide. The iseller was never going to get an image good enough to avoid the shadowing in the right places, the overly glaring light in other places, etc. I'm not 100% sure that this was done intentionally, either....just a less than average image taker who, as messydesk says, did well to get 3 times what the coin described and imaged, is worth. Fortunately, it wasn't a bigger dollar gamble.

<< <i> The way i look at it when picking some time i get what i get on the bay so i try to see as much as i can with nice pic. This is so i know i have a good shot at what i'm looking at. When looking at blurred photos i take a big chance of it not being what i thought it may be so it better be a good buy like a low price mabe just paying Silver or Gold price for the coin so if it's not what i wanted i don't get hurt. >>
I just wanted to highlight this statement by Type2, as it has proved time and again to be true in my own eBay cherrypicking adventures. I've found the two best ways to cherrypick eBay are to be the only guy who knows what he's looking for, or to be the only guy who knows what he's looking at. You can win big knowing die markers, pick up points for varieties, etc., or you can do it learning how to attribute, grade, or gauge colors from a lousy picture. You're going to be wrong sometimes, the key is to pay your tuition in small installments.

If the buyer was deceived, he deceived himself. No case for buyer protection.
This was a very clever listing and a lesson for everyone who buys on eBay.

Exactly! I can't believe how many people still shop for coins on ebay. The coin is worth melt value.
<< <i>Why did the other bidders stop at $60? >>
Because it is a 1923 and their gamble that it was a 1928 stopped at $60.

That's an awfully broad brush you're painting with. Even with the coin in hand, the most astute collector will purchase a lemon once in a while. Just because this particular gamble didn't pay off, it doesn't mean that people are not buying and cherrypicking plenty of great coins on eBay.
