Are you planning on going to the bank in the off chance
you'll get a low serial number, star note, or error?

The BEP delivers the notes to the various Federal Reserve Banks and they distribute them via armored car services to retail banks and stores.
So you may have to wait for the armored car services to exhaust their current supplies of $100s before they re-order from the Fed and the Fed will have to exhaust their supplies of current notes before they start distributing the new notes.
Where you live (which Federal Reserve district and how they distribute new currency) may also play a part in how soon you see the new notes.

This is supposed to take place after the Fed takes the dollar to zero, resets the U.S. debt to zero and starts over with precious metal backed currency to replace the fiat currency in existence now.

<< <i>And they are signed by the Obama tax criminal, Geithner. Little Timmy forgot to pay his taxes for a few years, like some of Oblamer's other appointees.
The bill has been touted by some conspiracy theorists that it will be gold-backed, ergo the gold inkwell and the gold $100 on the right and reverse.

Would prefer a nice type coin. And no, SBA is not the type coin I was referring to

Got to expect the same action on these.
I'll pass on paying a premium. I don't even want one at face , they're too much trouble to break, Credit Cards are my preferred method
of payment.
I would like to take a look though. One day it will happen.

Once more, the nation turns to Texas (all rise for a moment of silence please, out of deep respect for the land of my birth ... ... ... you may put your hats back on and be seated now. Thank you very much.) in its time of need. And yet again, the Lone Star State is there to answer the call.
<< <i>The DC BEP couldn't produce these - so they're printing them all in Ft. Worth

Up goes costs for wasted printing, but also for shipping them all over the place from TX.
<< <i>If I could only afford a $100 bill. So...NO! I am not going to the bank in hopes of getting a low serial number. >>
I'm with Mike, what is this expendable money idea that you have?
I'm still looking for the Lincoln cent, now THAT, I can afford. May just pick up two of them

<< <i>I think they're really cool. But I almost never use $100 bills.
I think that serial number would be a NICE premium LOL!!!

They sure can't play football down there! How 'bout them Broncos! Yee-Hah!!!!
I went over the the Mint and BEP Exhibit
areas to check out what they were selling
(and givin' away).
Donn Pearlman was there, guiding a local
TV station's cameraman to the BEP's new
$100 bill - it was to be a feature on the
local TV station that day, I believe.
I struck up a conversation with a nice gentleman
who was also watching - he saw I was a dealer,
and I told him I deal in Error coins and currency -
his response - "I see that stuff (error currency)
every day before they destroy it!". Turns out he
was the head of (or one of the heads of) Security
at the BEP ! We had a few minutes of interesting
conversations about errors, etc.
Asked if I could take a photo of the new $100 note
(it was back now, in the special display case), he
said "Certainly", and proceeded to take the note
out of the case and hand it to me !
I took some close ups (nothing different that on
the BEP's promotional material, etc.), and it
was great to actually hold one of them -
Two things of note: When I first placed the note
in my hand, I could feel the Serial Numbers embossed
on the back of the note in my palm! I asked him if
it was a new feature for for the Blind, but he said no -
some of the sheets had, for some reason, pressed the
serial number printing operation too hard into the
front side of the note, and you could acually feel them
on the back side !!
Second: The blue security 'thread' going thru the middle
of the note on the front is pretty darn cool - if you hold
the note, and rotated it 'up and down' - the blue hologram
turns left and right - and if you turn the note left to right,
the hologram turns upward and downward -
IE; the hologram rotates in the opposite direction that you
turn the note - I hadn't seen this effect before, and it's
pretty eye-catching when you do it.......

That "security thread" is called "Motion", and it's starting to appear on many world banknotes. It's part of Crane & Co's product line. Sweden's 1000 kronor banknote, released in 2006, was the first banknote to use Crane's Motion technology. I actually collect them (have all except the new $100), and they are a wonder to see. As Fred said, to see the image move in the perpendicular direction of motion, boggles the mind. I for one just can't see how this can be counterfeitted by the bad guys. Thumbs up for the USA to start using this, since I see hell freezing over before they move to polymer banknotes.

Huh? What?
The last time I checked, the stores I shop at did not "scan" their money (other than a visual scan). The same is true with banks.
As for "keeping track of the bills", why in the heck do you think they put "serial numbers" on them!
Sheesh, some folks should be prohibited from owning a keyboard!

They can do whatever they want. I'll be wearing my tin foil hat from now on and I'll always be immune from their trickery.

Making them harder to counterfeit might be the primary reason. Who knows what they may be able to do with GPS related technology in the years ahead.
I have been handling lots of 100's for 50 years and no one ever got a single fake note by me yet.
Been stuck here in Detroit Metro for the last 4 years. Lately we are building loads of Ram 1500's which keeps me working 7
Days / 12 hrs most weeks.
I'm so offbalanced most.times I don't even know what day of the week it is. Well I was going to say I was gonna hit the BEP and look for any special offerings of the new $100 bill.
Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open like everyone else.

no doubt, but Wash DC is a lot closer to the Cleveland FED, Richmond FED, Philly FED, NYC FED, Boston FED, and so many people and transactions happen in that area.

and fancy serial number found also Other thread on us currency forum middle of page
On Friday, different bank, a teller thumbed them roughly, and there was nothing special about the serial numbers. So I put them in my wallet to spend.
Handed one to the grocery clerk today. She held it up and asked "What in the world is this?"
The assistant manager was walking by and said "Oh, that's the new hundred!"
Grocery clerk huffed. "Looks like the end of the world or something."
I worry sometimes...

<< <i>I got a few from my bank (in Manhattan) on Thursday, late in the day. I asked the teller if they had any and he smiled a big grin, ear to ear, and said "We just got these 5 minutes ago!"
