1849-o quarter on doug's site

I have been noticing Doug Winter expanding more and more into buying nice other than gold type as well.
The 49-o Quarter in PCGS 40 I used to own years back, bought it from Steve Elwood after he bought it from auction(in which he had me bid for him while he attended the table) (this was my first experience bidding live auction on site).Anyway, It was a PCGS 35, tried twice to get the damn thing to go into a 40 holder , turned down twice. Later, Sold it to Dick Osburn when he was still in the heat of biz. Now I see someone finally got the coin into the holder it deserves and CAC at that.

I saw that 49-o straight away and was trying to figure out a good way to purchase but it's too rich for my blood. I thought it was alright for a 40 with decent color. Obviously, it was undergraded.
Too bad it didn't go to CAC as a 35, it may have received a gold.

There is a better one in the upcoming SBG auction. I honestly believe that most interested people have not noticed just how rare 1849-O quarters really are!
Key 1849-O Quarter in SBG Auction, an Unnoticed Rarity
Picked up a nicely detailed VF+ at a local B&M a while back.
Even with some rim dings it looks great in the Whitman book.
<< <i>It's close to a 40, but I would be more comfortable with it in a 35! >>
I agree. The reverse is better than EF-40, but the obverse is a 35.
<< <i>I have to give doug credit, he really moves some coins, with in a day or two of new coins going to his site, man more than half are always already onhold!!! >>
Tell me about it. I find myself checking his website daily and even then I seem to miss. Doug's got a great eye for coins.
Whether graded 35 or 40 this 1849-0 has unusual appeal for the date. Most are cleaned or played with. Very nice with tinges of luster.
