    at least it's a clean hole and not crude with huge metal displacement. The coin is probably still worth $400-$500.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible.     At first I was shaking my head but then I thought about it and it kind of made sense. It is a very unusual coin, and one that will always be a conversation piece even for/with the non-collector. It would actually be very cool to wear as a trinket just because letting a lot of people see it would be really fun. I just had to get past the loss of dollar value thing first.

    It was plugged when it was sent to PCGS, it came back unplugged.

    It should be fixed. I'd rather have one that was "Repaired" than "Holed". Still it's worth keeping as is.

    I wouldn't advise doing it to a coin you own, but buying and now having that in a collection would be nice.

    The coin is very nice, and I actually prefer this specimen to an original no problems issue. I find that the value of the 1955/1955 in current markets woudl deter many to make any other "holed" specimens, particularly in the AU/UNC grade. So I find this specimen to be of value in the lack of ability to replace it. This coin was purchased while I was visiting my wife at Ft Drum, the dealer I purchased it from sold it to a collector as a holed specimen in the late 1980s, and when the collector died he purchased the collection from the widow. At the time of repurchase he discovered the collector had plugged the coin. It had remained that way until I purchased it. I purchased it as a raw holed/plugged specimen. This summer I sent it to PCGS as a plugged specimen, and it returned as a non-plugged specimen. The plug is not in the holder... and I think it looks 100% better now. With the location of the hole, it had to be worn late in the 1950s/1960s when the value of the 1955 was minimal at most.

    Yeah, and I'll be honest, it's the sort of coin that I and others might want as a "hole filler" since an undamaged example is out of financial reach of many.

    I remember as a kid I could have bought a "BU" example for quite a bit less than what this one is probably worth today. Kicking myself for not doing so!
