I see Dennis Rodman will be signing autographs at Long Beach, will any forumites pony up the money t

If so, will you ask him to sign the show program, a TPG slabbed coin or an inexpensive raw coin?

Further, I wonder if during his break from the autograph table he will wander the bourse looking for coins and get bit by the hobby bug?

I remember his (former) agent was known for stumbling upon some hoard of silver or gold. If I were able to attend, I'd gladly wait in line to get his autograph, but I'd be a boatload more interested in hearing about his rebounding techniques, and I'd ask him if he's doing anything to advise the current Bulls squad like Scottie Pippen's presently doing.

Would he get bit by the bug? I wouldn't be surprised. He's an eclectic guy who likes to try a variety of stuff- and that, of course, might sound like a pretty big understatement lol.

If Dennis Rodman was routinely signing all the entrance tickets, I would politely ask that he NOT sign my ticket. Dennis Rodman has not helped the USA by his trip to North Korea. He is a joke.

No interest in an autograph here.

Wasn't Dwight Manley his agent when he was in the NBA?

Personally I probably wouldn't although hundreds if not thousands of others who'll be there Saturday would. I have nothing against the guy but he mostly played for teams I didn't care for. His autograph session will do just fine, with or without the dozen or so Negative Nicks from the coin forum.

Pretty sure Dwight represented Karl Malone, but that doesn't mean that Rodman wasn't in his stable of clients too. Dwight was one of the initial group of dealers who funded and organized the marketing and distribution of the SS Central America Hoard. Also, I believe, JA, QDB and HRH.

Personal repugnance aside, I think it's important he stays outside the door. Within 100 feet of the Sniffer, that hair is going to ruin submissions for an hour or two. Sort of a numismatic Typhoid Mary image

I hold Mr. Rodman somewhat responsible for the tattoo craze that has swept the young people of this country over the last 20+ years. He was the first high profile athlete I remember being heavily tattooed and I'm sure has influenced those same young people. So no, not remotely interested in his autogragh.

Coin people might feel that it's their divine right to disparage pro sports, sports in general and people who live unorthodox lifestyles or people who are different from them but the fact that these autograph sessions draw more attendance (and buyers) to the show in two hours than coins can in fours days is a fact that can't be ignored.

I love pro sports and sports in general. I am also very tolerant of those who live unorthodox lifestyles.
Having already wasted time and money on Rodman's autobiography (_Bad As I Wanna Be_), I will
not be wasting any further time or energy on him. He is basically not a very intelligent or interesting
person in my judgment. He was a great basketball player, but he doesn't do that anymore. Why
anyone still pays much attention to him speaks to the power of media and sensationalism, I guess.

    EDIT: Book title corrected.

Exactly. the Lakers Girls boosted attendance for the last Long Beach show. This is an excellent way for CLCT to cross sell autograph and coin grading and boost attendance at their shows. Basketball stars and football stars (Joe Montana, a SF QB, will also be there) are a great way to cross sell and boost attendance. Maybe some young people will also be spurred to attend and see the coins and gain an interest.

Lots of crabby old people on this board. Lighten up guys. And just an FYI, the rest of society views coin folks as people living unorthodox lifestyles directed at no one in particular.

Amazing that a thread which is purely "fluff" has generated the number of replies it has in such a short amount of time.

Also amazing the variety of opinions voiced in the replies. Many have no interest in Dennis Rodman or his autograph (with good reason, since he is [post basketball and outside of basketball] "famous for being famous") and the tone of their replies are negative. Others point out that having "non coin" activities at the Long Beach show will substantially increase the number of people attending.

Rodman went from celebrating his birthday at Cheetah's 'gentleman's club' on Monday (there was an ad in the NY Post, sports section, naturally, on Monday inviting everyone to celebrate his b-day with him at Cheetah's...lol), to signing autographs at a coin show? He must have decided to hang around NY (Cheetah's) for awhile, or had absolutely nothing to do, and I don't see Rodman as one who has absolutely nothing to do very often, if ever. From strippers to 'coin nerds'....what a week for Rodman...must be signing to pay his bar tab at Cheetah's...lol
    I'll come up with something.

Coin show by day, Cheetah's/ Scores/ Spearmint Rhino by night is pretty common. Come work the coin show circuit for a half year and you'll learn just how common that is.

He's actually a pretty nice guy...but only when dressed as a girl image

I wouldn't stand in line or even ask for his autograph if I met him on the street, but I would have a drink or smoke a cigar with him if we were in the same place at the same time... why not, he seems very interesting.

As I recall, Rodman, who was one of the best big man defenders in the game in his prime, was a coin collector/investor in his day, having been introduced to coins by Manley. I understood that at some point, he bid on some pretty big coins. I cannot recall where I read this, or heard it, but I am pretty sure I am stating it accurately. I do not know whether he currently owns anything.

I believe Rodman was underbidder on an 1884 TD when represented by Manley. TDN would know for sure.

<< <i>He gets around. A few months ago he was at a Dental Convention signing autographs at a dental supply companies table. >>

He gets around all right! I live and work in Laguna Beach, CA. About two years ago, my live-in girlfriend and I went to the White House bar in downtown Laguna for a nightcap. It is a great nightspot in this area. There are celebrities in and out of that restaurant/bar on a regular basis. No big deal. Well, on that particular summer night, my (ex)girlfriend and I had a two-top table on the patio. She wanted another drink, so I went to the bar to get her libation (it was a busy night and the serverwas too occupied to handle the patio tables well enough).

When I returned 10 minutes later, I found Dennis Rodman sitting in my chair hitting on my (ex)girlfriend. I said, "ummm, hey, ummmm. This is my chair." Dennis Rodman replied, "oh, sorry man," and he was gone in a flash. Surely not because my 6' height scared him away, but more likely that he could have taken home many of the other girls in the bar without a problem and he was just flirting with the locals.

An hour later, I was in front of the bar with a friend just talking and Dennis came out. We chatted a bit. He is actually a really nice guy. That is about all for this story. Well, other than the fact that I later heard my (ex)girlfriend telling her sister via phone that I *blank* blocked her chance with Dennis Rodman.

I now live alone, but still visit the White House once or twice a month. I am a happy camper!
