B. Max Mehl Good Luck Token

The obverse has a figure twirling a lasso.

The reverse has a horseshoe and:
B. MAX MEHL / NUMISMATIST - FORT WORTH - TEXAS / GOOD LUCK be with you

Bronze, 31mm, 11.40gm

B. Max Mehl, 1884-1957, was a legendary Fort Worth Texas coin dealer,
America’s most famous coin dealer of the first half of the 20th century.

Most of us here have heard of him, some have dealt with him.

He popularized coin collecting with his advertisements.

His customers included collector celebrities like King Farouk and
he handled some coin celebrities like the 1804 dollar and 1913 nickel.

But what is the figure on the token?
Is it a horse, camel, a bull, an Indian god, a Texas 'buckaroo'?

Added:
Is he holding a rope or his tail?

    Way cool. image

I guess we should rule out Anubis.

I suppose it's supposed to be a horse in keeping with the western theme.

At first I thought it was a bull but there are no horns. Uhh, is that part of the sash hanging down there??? Whatever it is it has fingers and toes and I'm not sure if that is a lasso because I don't see a loop in it.

Cool token from a famous dealer.

Successful BST deals with mustangt and jesbroken. Now EVERYTHING is for sale.

Now I am thinking the "lasso" might actually be the animals very long tail? Bizarre whatever it is.

Do you know when this token was designed? At one time Egyptian themes were very popular in the US, but I'm still just guessing.

It looks a little like a serpent as well.

I can't find any tie between Mehl and Egypt other than numerous coins he sold to king Farouk.

  • The figure is the Hindu god "Hanuman"
