One of these days, you "old time coin collecting Dinosaurs" are going to realize, that a F.S. label is "money in the bank." Most of the under 40 generation knew that a long time ago.

Then I'm a Tyrannosaurus Rex!
One of the largest dinosaurs that ever lived, Tyrannosaurus rex was a fierce carnivore. Scientists believe this powerful predator could eat up to 500 pounds (230 kilograms) of meat in one bite.

And some day, people will be debating whether they should crack a holder free of the coin it contains so they can sell the coin and get the label itself put in the right plastic.
<< <i>To me, the obvious answer is the MS69PL hands down.

Actually, I think we learned on a prior UHR thread thread that you had recently started that PCGS was not offering the PL designation on their earlier FS coins so the answer to the question would be you can have your cake and it it too by getting a FS that is in fact PL! Here is mine, (a FS 70) which may well qualify:
(That said, the question you post as to the 69 is most interesting given the price convergence as opposed to the price divergence for the 70 between FS and PL.)
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Any guesses as to what future collectors will consider to be more important?

Thanks for taking the time to put together that side by side comparison. Now if we could just get some early FS UHR's and later PL UHR'S,s side by side we might just learn that the early strikes were even more likely to be PL given the freshness and or polishing of the dies.
Just about every UHR looks PL to me... I've seen the PL designated and non-PL coins side by side and I couldn't see a difference. I've seen a few UHRs that have tons of die polish lines in the fields that make them look a little hazy so maybe those shouldn't be PL, but those are the minority.
Welcome to the club. Sometimes I suspect a version of "The Emperor's New Clothes" may be in play - looks and sounds crazy? Probably is....
Let's not go there with the FS, Early Release, etc. designations. These IMO are a ba-tardation of the TPG concept, and the acceptance of them as legitimate harm (also IMO obviously) the opinion of just how "smart" or knowledgeable collectors (dare I say "numismatists" LOL) are.
As per above I will keep mine in OGP and original shipping box, etc. as one of my very favorite coins.
Love that Milled British (1830-1960) Well, just Love coins, period.
The things I buy at the mint usually stay the way they come from the mint. This coin , like most modern issues, I would prefer in the OGP where I can grade it MS70 for all intents and purposes by myself .... However, if push came to shove and the OP was forcing this on me, I would take the FS example for economic and financial reasons. Why leave a hundred bucks on the table if we're just counting money ? Gold is money. That's the fact and besides, I"m looking to get it at spot price like everyone else
Interestingly, most UHR's fail to achieve the "PL" designation due to the reverse of the coin. PCGS has been quite consistent on this since they started grading PL's a few years ago.

Having both, there is certainly a discernible difference, even to the "naked" eye, especially on the reverse.
