This Doily was on Teletrade yesterday. Tried to win it but was apparently outbid at the last minute... oh well. Hope someone here got it. Looks like it might be the first Rhode Island for the census:

There was also an 1882-CC Morgan Dollar graded MS65 in a Doily at the Goldberg Auction (Lot 785) that went for a ton of money. Like a dummy I didn't write down the certification number image

Yep... I saw them at the show though and they were offered to me... just didn't want to pay the premium even though they were great doily slabs. But I did make sure to take down the info for the census image

    Just an update . . .

Was able to buy an 1883-CC MS65 DMPL Morgie at the Las Vegas show. We'll get it added soon. Also there was a 1949-D Frankie in MS64. I tried, but the dealer knew it was a holder premium, so I wasn't ready to drop $150 on another common Frankie. Beyond that, the cupboard was bare of ANY old holder. Even alphanumeric ANACS are almost gone (got one).

No 2.5s . . . . .no 3.5s . . . . no 2.0/2.1 NGCs either, and just the two Doilies. I sold 6 Doily dupes to a SLC dealer. Just tired of having 6 of some Morgie and Merc dates/MMs. Need to keep available cash for the unique Type coins or Morgies I don't have. Back in the days of 155 total Doilies in the Census, I actually thought I could grab almost all of them. I have become my own worst enemy though . . . with 450+, I won't be cornering any marketimage so . . . now we look at unique Type and doing that Morgie Set in All-Doily.

I'll be at Long Beach in June. Not expecting much. Yes . . . the anti--holder guys are the prophets of holderdoom, but hey, at Las Vegas, the cupboard was nearly bare.

Have some holder fun with your coins! (with apologies to Mr Hall)

Looks like someone already stepped up and paid the huge fee for the coin, but CRO had an 1836 Lettered Edge Bust Half in a Doily graded VF30 in their early bird post today. Cert No. 2274620

Wow . . . and to think I though I had those guys attention that I would be in line to "pay up" for those cool coins?

    Hmmmmm . . . .

Loyalty knows no bounds. Hey CRO . . . remember the Oregon Trail ??? I demonstrated I'd pay 2x what it was worth! You just sold me out!!!!

I guess we can add this one to the census. Looks to be the first 1959 PF Franklin reported. I think it could be a PF67. Only paid $25 for it! image

... I just got one on the bay, when it gets here I will post pics and serial# as I did not see it listed on your current list. I probably got ripped off but I wanted one, so I bid and won. I will state on the record that Jack Daniels wanted the coin more than I did... He won.

P.S. don't go getting impatient for more info, as its a common date in a low grade.

Is there a series of coins that can be collected entirely in Doily holders? I think MS franklins might be do-able... any others?
WTB... errors, New Orleans gold, and circulated 20th key date coins!

Check out the OP - probably Morgans comes closest.

Word is there are a couple of sets that were reholdered in or submitted to be graded in doilies. Walkers and maybe mercs.

I currently have a 1945 WLH (doily) graded MS65. Paid 20% over GS bid for it, but still happy to have one. image
  • A good idea would be to look at the Ebay sold listings. There are a few in there that are not in the census!

I wanted to add this one to the census before I put it up on ebay

You need to add the 1866 Shield 5C MS-64 that member nk1nk was promoting here this week. I understand it may already be sold to another forum member for moon money. Cert. #5126867.
And how about the PCGS-64 that Heritage sold in 2012, with the outer frame missing?

Since I don't collect these it will be on ebay soon. Cool to see that this one is two certs away from another already reported coin, looks as though it was submitted at the same time as its the same date/mint and grade.
