I've always liked the MS68 Eliasberg 1859-s halves. But don't recall this one having such an obvious print.

I am bothered by supergrade coins with obvious fingerprints. Am not bidding on an otherwise nice SLQ for this very reason.

While bothersome from an eye appeal POV, mark-wise the coin is perfect.

Depends how one defines perfect. Lots of dirty grey toned coins are original and otherwise "perfect" as well but languish unsold until they are dipped to create market appeal.

I am not even tracking any of these SLQ's - all retreads from the last dozen auctions - whose reserves are
out of sight. What once was a phenomenal collection has been parceled out and although all of the coins
remaining for sale are beyond my means, I seriously doubt the reserves will be met (again).

I just checked the Eliasberg Bowers catalog and this 1859-S did not have a print on the date back in 1997.
It looks like some upper left OBV toning was dipped off and the perpetrator left his finger print ! Klutz !

I would really like to add the 1909 IHC struck over a 1906 Barber Dime to my 1909 set... but I'm pretty confident it'll be way out of my price range! My birthday is coming up though if anyone out there is paying attention

The silver dollars from the Janet Nakushian collection are very nice.

The 1899-S fell just a wee bit short of my consideration.

The 1889-O in MS63DMPL with a gold CAC should be attractive to many.

I'll be pursuing one of the collection's other Morgans.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if it were a S mm coin ?? It's about the only coin that caught
my attention. No, it won't be coming to SW Florida, sorry to say...

In the "Internet Only" section you're going to find a few interesting lots. Some are NoGrades that are by no means obnoxious. A British cataloguer might call them "useful".

Read my "Numismatist" Auctions Results column from maybe 2 years ago. It's titled "Lots Of Opportunity"

Skimming over the rare schlock and the crap and the dreck, the almost, the more than just a little bit better but not quite close enough, I saw AU 55DDO, off color 14-D. '94 $1 lustrous PC AU58. Large lot of Bust 25c

There is one possibly for me, but first thing before I look at it, I am going to check a coin that heritage should have over in lot preview for their sale the following week that is a "got too buy" if nice as it appears to be.

A couple of interesting points here:

1. The 1859-S half --Roadrunner, has this been in a 68 holder for a long time? I see it's now in a SecureHolder. As for the fingerprint, I would want to see it in person before making any judgments.

2. JBN is collecting Morgans?

Figerprint left after a dip was the first thought that came to my mind as well. Terribly distracting.

That might be Eliasbergs finger print.

MFH, good research. I checked the 1997 catalog as well and came to the same conclusion. There was some toning around the date at that time, but doesn't
look quite like the current fingerprint.

Breakdown, yes this coin has been in a MS68 holder since just after the 1997 sale. This 1859-s half started out in an NGC MS68 holder. Eventually it worked its way over
to a PCGS MS68 during the 1998-2008 period. I can't say when that occurred though. CAC did sticker it which implies they didn't have any issues with it. If you want a MS68
No Motto half dollar you currently have few to no alternatives other than this 59-s and it's sister coin, also from the Eliasberg sale.

Nothing for me! They only have 4 Mercury Dimes! Really? Out of the date sets that I am working on they had NONE of the coins in any of the denominations. Pretty sad if you ask me, but of course no one did.
