<< <i>Likely an alias. Bill (Bojangles) Robinson toured with Mayme Remington's troupe in the late 19th century.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say there are 5,000 Bill Robinsons in the USA.

Maybe more. But how many Bill Robinson (Remingtons) are there? Whatever that means.

I have spent over 2 hours of my time dealing with fraudulent credit card orders in the past two days. Finally upgraded to an advanced fraud detection suite for our payment processing. Sadly, I called Discover this afternoon to give them additional information on the perp, and they treated me like I was the criminal. I gave them everything that they needed to make an arrest, but they made it seem like I was bothering them. Maybe I was. Maybe they get thousands of similar calls per day. I forwarded some of the information to Doug Davis of numismaticcrimes.org asking for his assistance. In the meantime, we are scrutinizing every order.

Fact....yes the cc's get thousand of frauds on a daily basis. It's not cost effective for them to persue "small amounts" nor appear in court related cases over them. I suppose they consider the fraud losses a part of the cost of doing business and have sufficient reserves set up.
<< <i>Thanks. Will be careful
... Which one is Bill Robinson (Remington) the Nigerian in Georgia with a California telephone prefix ?

They simply pass the losses on to the merchants. The merchants always lose in these situations.

Bingo. The dealer is the one stuck with the loss of the full amount. The bank and the credit card processor don't need "reserves".
I was under this mistaken impression myself until being hit with a multi-thousand dollar loss (where we did as much due diligence with the credit card processor as humanly possible before shipping. In the end, it made zero difference. We had to eat the loss).
I had another fraudulent credit card order yesterday. The pattern that I am seeing is that ALL of the fraud attempts lately have been made using stolen Discover cards. This time I immediately called the phone number used, and it was disconnected. I did an IP look-up and there is a distance of over 100 miles from where the gold was ordered to the shipping address.
I called Discover (again) and they quickly confirmed that it was a stolen card. What I do not understand is why they did not share the stolen card number with authorize.net (payment gateway) so that it would immediately be blocked. The previously stolen card used on our site was also already known to Discover to be stolen.
Isn't it tempting to buy a USPS delivery outfit and make a special "hand delivery" of a package to these low life thieves? Of course that is not safe, but......
