For the record, I went with EF40, personally, to concur with the seller's grade.

Sorry, but giving this coin an EF-40 is grade-flation. It is a nice VF. I voted VF-30.

I graded it VF 25 - then looked at the PhotoGrade attachment - I am 99% on mark.

I have become aware that my gut reaction is usually correct - if I dwell on a coin at
all, it's to see if there is some impairment I am missing. This coin looks solid and with
out any grade limiting issues. Nice coin, IMHO .

By the Numismedia trends, I basically paid midway between VF and XF money for it.

These polls (as related to the last five coins, anyway) have shown me that while I sometimes estimate the technical grade a few points above the consensus, I usually come in OK on the price paid, at least from a retail/collector point of view. There apparently have been no major cherrypicks nor any serious blunders thus far.

I guess I'm OK with "a nice VF" consensus here.

Details grade to me is VF35. The main reason it is not an XF40 is the weak "E" in LIBERTY. Chatter in the fields and a small reverse rim bump keep it out of the "choice" category as well.

Now if this were an 1874-cc, it would make 40 all day long. Those coins have convex obverses, and the word Liberty will sometimes be weakened even on an XF40 coin.

This coin is in hand now and I like it a lot.

I bought it from Rick Snow (EagleEye), via his BST offering of renomedphys' type coins.

Mr. Snow, seeing that this poll was going against the initial XF40 assessment of the coin, enclosed a $20 rebate, which was an unnecessary but much appreciated gesture. The agreed-upon price was OK by me even considering the VF+ consensus here. With a $20 rebate, so much the better. Thanks go out to Rick Snow for being a class act.

VF35, VF30 if going conservative. It's not a 40. It is a nice looking Seated Half and I'd be happy to have it!

That's pretty much how I feel, too. 30-35. I think the slight rim bumps on the reverse and tiny scratches in the left field of the obverse will probably knock it down to 30. If the coin was otherwise flawless, then 35.

Here's a coin with similar wear that I think was knocked up to 35 for it's look and surfaces:
