Found a 1795 one cent coin - value? grade it? type? help please

Hi - I'm primarily a currency collector but I am now getting back into coins. I had a bag of rusty old coins in a ziplock that I had laying around. Well, I finally decided to go through it to see what I had and I found this 1795 one cent coin. I'm trying to figure out what it's worth and if I should have it slabbed. Can anyone take a guess as to what I could get for it and if it is worth sending in for grading? can anyone tell me what type this is?

when looking at the coin from certain angles, you can't tell this kind of detail. But when the light is right, this is how it appears.

I thank you in advance for your help!

Damaged, reasonable detail, genuine. Someone will want it, but I can't hazard a guess at what price.

Sheldon-76. Does it have a plain edge, or is it a thick planchet with lettered edge "ONE HUNDRED FOR A DOLLAR"? Big difference in price.

ok, as far as I can tell it has a plain edge. I stared at it till my eyes hurt but I couldn't fine any letters anywhere. damn. haha so any idea what it's worth?

braddick - I'm not sure what your post means but if you are referring to the scratches, thanks for your contribution. ;-)

Sheldon 76-b, then. It's the very most common of the Liberty Cap cent varieties. It has a lot of detail, but serious problems and damage. A dealer will always try to buy a coin like this as cheaply as possible because it will be hard to sell. However, they do surprisingly well on eBay in true auction format. Could go anywhere from $100 to $250 depending on how many people want it.

Congrats. It will bring over 100. Maybe 3 at most. 1795s with detail are difficult ATM

Try and get some better pix before eBay. Your first set are overexposed and the second set are too small.

It'll help your bottom line in the long run.

    Nice find!

I'd be very impressed with that range. I'll probably do a buy it now with a best offer to see what comes in. Thanks for the input!

The coin has VF sharpness, but lots of problems. It would be a decent filler for a lower end type set.

These coins are had to find in today's market. Most of the nice ones and even the not so nice ones tend to find long term homes.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
