He may not know it yet, since he wasn't at FUN, but Dan Carr was the recipient of this year's A. George Mallis Memorial Award for outstanding article related to Silver Dollars, awarded by the Society of Silver Dollar Collectors, for his article "The '1964-D' Overstruck Peace Dollar Project", which ran in the SSDC's newsletter, the VAM-e in February 2012.

    Carr does great work, fantastic, but should not get a pass, everyone slams the fakes from china and praises Carr. If he were producing these from a home base in China he would be bashed on the boards, but since he is a forum member and a us citizen he gets praised. lol

    Dan was a frequent customer when I worked at a coin shop in Denver in the early 1980s, so I''ve enjoyed reading of his successes over the years.

    I would feel much less ripped off buying a Chinese fantasy coin made from an authentic one, with the quality of a Dan Carr example, than a fake made from base metal intended to deceive.

    I don't see the comparison.

    Yeah,I agree. I think something is wrong when making these coins. Doesn't the word,counterfeit come into play here? I'm not saying,Mr.Carr is involved in any wrongdoing but,what if somebody,with wrongdoing in their mind is at play here?They are beautiful but there is also,the other side of the coin issue.(pun,not intended)imageimage

    In theory, this would seem be true, yet in the real world, those who enjoy collecting a wide variety of numismatic material may already make a purchase or two from D. Carr's website with or without the influence of positive or negative threads.
    Those narrow minded individuals who cling to a single thought, those on a crusade of wanting him shut down- (those same individuals stand alone without the support of any U.S. agency or official), certainly will not.
