1854-S

Thoughts on a technical grade?

I won't ask about "eye appeal," as the example has obviously been cleaned. image

AU details / cleaned. I think I can see hairlines on the obverse. The color is not deep enough for my tastes. That being said, I have always wanted to own an 1854-S gold coin. There are no 1854-S silver coins of any denomination.

Heck, I'd even settle for four 1854-S QEs! image

I love the date, and for $1100 or so, I would be a buyer.

    Here's mine--

Beautiful example, Robert... thanks for sharing! image

How does $998.75 sound for my example?

Just curious, where do you see the damage? Perhaps the dig on Miss Liberty's cheek?

yes. i think that it's big enough to where i would consider it damaged. but, that's just my opinion.

I think the cheek hit is par for the course for a mid 19th century, west coast $10 gold coin. Heavy coins, soft metal, brutal lives riding around on horseback out west....

I would buy it for under $1000. It is more interesting to me than the similarly priced Canadian hoard coins (as a comp).
