<< <i>This is finally sold out thanks to the last chance sale. >>
Didn't even get close to a sell out mintage was 100,000 split between proof and unc. They just stopped selling them. If they waited for a sell out they would be selling them for the next 7 years.
I would think the Generals would be popular among Army folks. I like the design of MacArthur and will buy one to keep for my collection. I wonder if the clads will come under 40K like the army clads a few years ago. I will be watching those definitely.
"6,759 is a good looking sale report on the $5 unc star spang. banner gold commem. If you see them on the net for cheap buy them."
Eric (or anyone): A buddy of mine plans on rejecting 60 coins when they come knocking on the door today or tomorrow. If you know where to move them, send me a note ASAP

The problem with this coin short-term is too many large orders got filled by speculators and they struck more coins. If they hadn't struck more coins it would have been to the moon.
I highly, highly doubt it .... he ordered the coins a long time ago and it was entirely the Mint's fault in my opinion extending out his ship date again and again for a month. He also tried to cancel BEFORE the date the mint scheduled his order for shipping, but they shipped it a day early on him and told him to reject the coins at the door. Does that sound like grounds to punish this guy?

It's impossible to know what's fair without all the details, but if he got the customer service rep's name and if the rep entered notations to that effect into his customer record, he shouldn't have a problem. There shouldn't be any urgency to move them if he already has authorization to reject the shipment.
Q: Are You Printing Money? Bernanke: Not Literally
The "urgency" is the hassle in not just saying "I don't want them" to his UPS man at the door, alerting his credit card company to what the Mint specifically told him to do and moving on - right?

Well, any time that you order 60 gold coins, you take a risk that the Mint might ship them before you decide to cancel the order and that your credit card would be charged. If it takes a month to get the credit for a return, then that's the cost of doing business on a scale of 60 gold coins.
Does he already have a Return Authorization # and the rep's name? It should already be logged in his account record. If so, the credit shouldn't take as long.
Is he refusing the shipment, or did he take delivery? It seems to me that he played right into the Mint's plan, along with the other 1,500 last-minute orderers.
Q: Are You Printing Money? Bernanke: Not Literally
He told me that they told him it was Ok to just refuse delivery at the door.
Now, I personally have NEVER done that and don't plan to anytime soon with the Mint (so I am not suggesting here that it works well - LOL). Has anyone else on the boards done it that way before?

<< <i>This weeks new numbers Star spangled banner unc. Gold 6,759 coin sold. I think this is just under CVC by a hair. >>
Since this 6,759 figure represents the total number of placed (but not yet processed) orders at COB on Dec. 17th, which happens to be the day/time sales ended, this number can only go down since there will be returns and cancellations of orders. Final Mint audit might not be known for a year, so for those who have recently placed orders are in a quandary.
To cancel/return, or not to cancel/return? That is the question...

I did just that, Mitch, as the mint recommended, with a shipment years ago to my POB and they did not credit my account, rather attempted to replace my coin as I did not open the package and indicate otherwise.
In the end, it took MUCH longer to receive a refund that if I had eaten the postage and filled out the return form. Granted, this was only one high dollar coin, but......
As an update, that buddy of mine decided to not reject the (60) SSB coins from the mint, but to take delivery of that order. Maybe it was something Eric said

Yes, this is the interesting thing ... we may not know if this SSB beats out the CVC coin until close to Thanksgiving 2013!

<< <i>6,759 is a good looking number on a $5 gold commem. >>
Returns and cancellations may lower this figure when new numbers are released this week. Anyone want to predict the new total? I say no less than 5,500... I'm thinking the 6,759 figure looked more attractive to those who were contemplating cancelling their orders.
<< <i>Not low enough to do much especially when they were being hoarded. Our only hope is they didn't strike enough to meet those sales numbers of 7027. >>
I hope so, too, but I doubt if the Mint underestimated the final number of orders given that that a portion of the proceeds goes toward a third party beneficiary. That's why it may be good news for collectors that Congress is considering abolishing this aspect of modern commemoratives.
<< <i>I thought the numbers would be final this report? >>
With the US Mint, something as apparently straightforward as actual sales of a closed product line can be maddeningly difficult to obtain and may take upwards of a year to receive.
