uncirculated Star Spangled Banner $5 Over 6250 sold
It seems that Mint will satisfy any demand from flippers.
At least 2000 More will be minted by end of the year.

<< <i>Alert! It seems that uncirculated Star Spangled Banner $5 Gold soldout is imminent.
A new modern key emerging?
Could potentially dethrone Jackie R. >>
What's the score on that one?
$5 uncirc. - 4,638
$5 proof - 5,605
Jackie R. uncirc. - 5174
Modern gold comms. seem to take a few years before even the low mintage ones see a nice price increase. Last year's Medal of Honor and US Army $5 golds are good examples, fairly low mintages but yet not a lot of premium. . . yet.

Interesting, that is a significant drop below Jackie R. unc.
As for the time it takes, that may be as much as economic conditions as anything. The 2002 Olympic $5 unc is a pretty low mintage and really has never gotten any respect. Maybe if the economy ever snaps back we will see some of the low mintage modern comms show some life.

I think it has to do more with the series. Look at the overnight skyrocket in 2012 W $50 uncirc prices this week when the Mint stopped selling at under 6K mintage. PCGS MS70 First Strikes jumped over $1000 on ebay very quickly. Apmex went from $2220 to $3495 in less than one day.

<< <i>I'm not sure where the OP is getting his/her information, as it clearly states on the website that the last day of ordering is on Dec. 17th. >>
Good point, mintage limit is 100K. However, they are showing a backorder status just like the 2012 W uncircs did right before the mint stopped selling them. It probably had to do with selling existing stock and not doing another press run. Since it is near the end of the sales period, good chance you will see that with the SSBs as well with final sales depending on how many are still on the shelf already minted. Remaining inventory, if sold could put these over the JR mintage, remains to be seen. Too close to call at this point but I'm thinking they minted at least 6K initially considering they were prepared to sell up to 100K.
For those watching these OP probably did them a service with his alert. For those already holding and hoping for a new low mintage OP probably didn't do them a favor.

Be careful what you wish for ... as the mintage approaches that of MOH and Army $5 gold, the coin gets closer to their (weak) values - no?

P.S. Proof Buchanan boxes as well !!!
PS I can't remember a coin selling out on a weekend, so we may know tomorrow morning as it may have to be done manually.

Higher gold prices will mean lower mintages, but it will also mean lower premiums. Some moderns are already feeling this effect.
If gold ever reaches $10 million per ounce, even the 1933 double eagle will be furnace bait.

You need to add over 10K proofs that are part of the 2 coin proof set. Still a low number for the proofs

Overlooked those, thanks. Correct JR sales:
$5 uncirc. - 4,638
$5 proof - 24,072 to include those in the 2 coin set with the proof $5 gold and silver dollar, the 4 coin set with proof and uncirculated versions of each coin, and the Legacy Set, which included a baseball card, pin, and the $5 gold proof coin

You will be evaluated based on future sales increase over the current year
There are two ways to do it. First, increase sales number next year (tough given the current economy) Second, depress (artificially

<< <i>Wow look at the 1/4 OZ 2012 Gold Proof under 3000 mintage.......! >>
That doesn't include the 4,078 sales from the 4 peice set, though... But it's still a very low # for that series.
<< <i>Wow look at the 1/4 OZ 2012 Gold Proof under 3000 mintage.......! >>
Shhhhh. What are you trying to do here.
Acutually, don't forget to add in the 4-piece set.
ps Just kidding on that curse thing.
<< <i>I would have expected a sold out by now, maybe they will make more. >>
I hope if they do they don't go by the sales in the last few days because probably many of those may be cancelled.
Wow, I did not know this. I wonder if I can get a special label for my box color variety?
<< <i>So is it under Jackie or over? That is the question. >>
That answer won't be known until mid December...since they are NOT sold out yet.
<< <i>Being this late in the year any concerns about previous returns being sold? >>
If the mintage is less than 5000, I would keep the coin even if it graded AG03.

I'm with you. Tough call. Chasing low mintages is getting very, very expensive.
The big question is whether it's time to part with Jackie while the prices are still high. I didn't think that he'd be beat. Might be time to sell. Thoughts?
As far as Jackie goes, that coin lost its strong demand a number of years ago (and about 50% of its peak value). It certainly may go lower and may have done so with or without the SSB $5 as a factor. In fact, I could make a case that Julia Tyler hurt Jackie more than SSB ever could.
As always, just my 2 cents.

<< <i>Raufus: While the mintage is important as far as $5 Gold commems go, it is not THE most important factor to a coin's value in that particular series.

Wow, I see that a raw Jackie Unc. just sold for $1600. I had not followed these in a while.
