ok i give
is this the 7f that has eluded my database?
.
i double and triple checked the other known 8 marriages and no script "8"s
.
John, in his article, credits his find as "I believe is the most significant discovery that I made since I found the 1829 Curl Base 2 Dime in 1973."
His studies led to this 9th die marriage, which at that time Harry Bass was unaware. I believe this is a new obverse AND a new reverse, but will have to verify this as I do not have all my notes currently available at hand.
In any event, years have past and I know this die marriage is still so very rare. Back in 2000, John and I arranged a visit together so I could photographed all his classic material for his up coming book. John is one extremely knowledgable and busy individual. Hopefully his dream to publish will be fulfilled.
Good luck to all those classic collectors! May you be as fortunate to locate one for your collection.

<< <i>If you are a JRCS member and have vol. 11 Issue 1 of 1997 on hand you will be very interested to read about John McCloskey's new discovery (circa 1996) concerning the year 1836 for the $5 classic Gold series. >>

a great read indeed!
.
I am hoping the Classic Head Gold book gets published, it will bring more attention and collectors into this little known series.

and compare the 8 to this one (esp. where the 2 halves of the 8 come together)
that bust almost looks like Sylvester Stallone in Rocky!
ADRIAN !!!!!!!

My collection of rare gold, type and more for sale.
while we are on the subject of $5 classics
anyone have images for
1835-2D
1836-7F need to confirm the script 8 is the 7F
1837-3C
1838-1B
I've hunted catalog after catalog including some of the biggies and many auction results and have turned up nada.
or if the obverse/reverse dies have been assigned numbers, I may be able to piece one together from any shared dies, but is a very long shot.
.
ttt for anyone with info on those 3 images. I don't mind digging, but i'm running out of places to look.
.
Labelman87 should pipe in here - he just completed his collection of Classic $5 Gold.

<< <i>Wow! I'd say you would get a GOLD STAR for a beautiful Half Eagle AND photograph! Unfortunately........not a script 8. I wish it was. This is a great challenge folks, Please PM me if you have one!!!! I know there are out there. I know it, I know it! Keep posting. >>
not my coin
.
Wouldn't it be nice if the script 8 could be included in the Red Book? After all, it is the only script/fancy 8 for that year. Maybe some day?
Happy hunting Folks!

So it only took almost two years to respond to the challenge, but here is your next 1836 Script Half Eagle.
Congrats!
AND, a big congrats to Dave Wnuck! Even for an experienced, well seasoned, knowledgable "nice to deal with" dealer of choice material I know it takes a lot to locate these Script 8 Classics! To my knowledge, few individuals have an opportunity to handle these cool examples.
