I found an interesting counterfeit Peace dollar yesterday

I don't collect counterfeits, but while searching through a large pile of melt silver dollars yesterday, I spotted this.
I showed it to the shop owner and we discussed it for a bit. I ended up taking it home as a novelty.
It weighs 24.1 grams and appears to have been cast rather than struck. It's just slightly larger in diameter than a real Peace dollar.
There's a seam around the edge.... Maybe where they stuck the front & back together? Anybody have any information other than what I've described?
It's dated 1935-S

    That may be a vintage counterfeit, circa 1935-45. I couldn't prove it.

    Pretty cool piece. All I can add is that I bet it wasn't made before 1935.

    Wow. That's like an "ultra-light". I've seen a few Morgans and Trade Dollars come up short. Like 18 to 24 grams, and even a few that weighed right. Wonder what the alloy is.

    I've never seen a real counterfeit in person, but a mould would have two pieces and a join line.


    that is one sloppy join line.

    Ooops. I mis-spoke and it does weigh 24grams. I'm not sure of the alloy, but it has almost no ping to it when you flip it.

    Probably pot metal. Primarily zinc with a very low melting point. Widely used to make cheap castings where material strength isn't an issue.
