1893-S Morgan AU58 on Ebay - IGC - What the....

Maybe its just me, but I would not feel safe purchasing a coin like this in an IGC holder.

Why would a coin like this be in an IGC holder?

Maybe I am missing something here.

    Good coins can be found in ICG holders!
    WTB... errors, New Orleans gold, and circulated 20th key date coins!

    Most coins like this that I've seen personally are not in PCGS plastic for a reason (cleaning, altered surfaces, questionable tone, etc).

    Specifically I bought several ICG graded coins that seemed to "look okay" from this seller a couple of months ago and not a single one crossed over successfully at PCGS - most were deemed either cleaned or altered surfaces.

    I don't know if it's just the seller's pictures or what, but most of their ICG coins for sale have this tan/beige look to them.

    That may be why. On this coin, the holder makes a huge difference on the price. Looking at Heritage for 1893-S Morgans, just having it in a PCGS holder brings a premium over NGC, let alone other TPGs.

    I am on my phone, so I cannot see a good picture of this coin. Would a coin like this cross to PCGS at AU58.


    Just checked his feedback, lots of returns and unhappy buyers.

    crappy scanner. it is part of the selling scam to go along with those stupid holders

    I bought my '93-S in an ICG holder and it crossed at grade. Not saying this one would. Just saying don't blame the slab.

    You can't grade this coin from the photos provided. The tan - brown color looks suspicious to me. It could be from a dipping is now turning back, but it could also be a way to hide a cleaning or some other problem. The sale has now ended with 0 bids at $0.99.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
