    Yeah, it's a bit over the top on crusty, but I kind of dig it so had to buy it.

    nice origial coin. too dark for the masses though, plenty of them around that have been stripped down and are now unnaturally bright... if thats what ya like.
    regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything

    Yes but I've seen darker coins graded in top tier slabs.

    Well, the FYOI Roosevelt in MS60 that was left in a nook in the eastern facing portion of the foundation of my house when built is way, way darker. Comes close to obscuring the date yet has no wear. It looks good next to a 59 BB Jeff 5C.

    I like this Morgan $.

    Yes, I wondered about that a bit. Not that it is, but reminded me a tiny bit of felt tip marker and other junk. a 20 will obviously have some "shine" - my 10c is dead matte, but it had not been touched. Wise Bear talked about original fairy powdery surfaces or however he put it so well. This dime was covered in dust!

    Funny- I actually don't mind it too much. I don't love it, but certainly don't hate it. It's OK.

    Though it might be almost a cliché to say it, I think that coin's got a bit of character. Hey... it's almost a CircCam. image

    Needs to be pocket worn for a couple of weeks, months, or such to wear some of that
    crust down. I'm neutral on it as it is.

    Much too dark, and it would be a "no grade" if I were a third party grader. This has reached the point to where I would call it "corroded silver."
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Doesn't work for me. If it came into the shop I would not pay VF money for it, nor would I sell it for VF money. For just a bit more money a nice AU can be had.

    Just my 2 cents worth (even at 2 cents some say my advise is over priced) image

    I'm assuming that the reverse largely looks like the obverse. Given that, I don't really care for the look of the coin. If I am interpreting the surfaces correctly, then they don't remind me so much of a deeply dirty coin, but rather one that had something applied to them at some point. However, at $315 all-in I don't think you have to worry too much, if at all.

    Yes, it's too dark for me and 1800 CC are readily available with better looking alternatives. The only thing that would maybe (big maybe) tempt me on this would be if it was a 1880/79 rev of 78. If it's just a standard 1880/79 (most of not all are) there is no premium, and the color/pitting/scratches are a big distraction
