Its where I mainly post at under the name Mat. I enjoy it. Mods arent too bad. Some posters can be a pile of @($& like mrbrklyn, I want him banned cause he's just a spammer.
But there is knowledgeable folks on there just as there is on here.
Nice thing is threads dont get pushed down as quickly as they do here.

I don;t know that I agree with that. CT can be a fun place to hangout but it's susceptible to the same problems and posters that are found over here.
Image posting is a snap and doesn't reuire a 3rd party Image Hosting site to post reasonable images. There are size limitations, but no where near the 50kb limit set over here.
There are knowledgeable posters and there are "self assumed" knowledgeable posters. There are newbies and there are experienced collectors. There are young posters and there are older posters.
It's a cool place.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I find this site to have more posts about higher end material. This site also has much better buy/sell forums. I don't like the pm feature here as much and don't understand why the default is off.
CT has many more beginner/basic questions but feels more welcoming to newer members because of this.
I visit both daily and they both seem to serve a purpose.
Looking for Northern California National Bank Notes, Chico, Redding, Oroville.
<< <i>All forums have pros and cons... I'm a member over there too as are many folks here on CU.

Illini has it about right. I like CU a lot but i still visit CoinTalk and ATS for changes of pace. I am always amazed by people on one forum critcizing another forum, as it seems unnecessary. I follow this forum most closely but there are plenty of reasons to read the others. As one good example, Mark Feld posts ATS and on CoinTalk and cannot post here.

The nice thing about that forum as I remember was there was a mod called GDJETW or something who simply knows everything and will not hesitate to let you know that.

I've heard that nothing has changed on that matter
<< <i>Used to have a ton of resident experts...most have since fled. >>
If you look at the join date of the posters you will see that is true. Most have been there just a year or two. The more experienced posters have left. There's reasons for that. There are a very few very knowledgeable posters but the rest is just childish chatter and arguments over insignificant matters.

LOL. Ah yes, Mr. Alphabet. He knows all. It doesn't matter the subject. [/sarcasm]
Oh and the photo posting sux. You have to hoover over each picture just to see the full size picture. Why not just show the full size picture in the first place? Idiotic.
It's not that I have anything against it. I just have traditionally spent so much time here that in the past I never went much anywhere else.
Lately I've been becoming a presence on forumancientcoins.com, because that's where my collecting interests are increasingly headed.
I did go peek over at Coin Talk the other day and on a whim, decided to try my usual username and password combo, and whaddya know, it worked. I must have signed up over there at some point. Maybe I should go poke around some more there. I know there have been times when even on a large site like this my sometimes manic posting can get tiresome. I guess if I were to spread myself out a little bit more thinly and lightly, over several different forums, it might be a good thing for me and everyone else, huh?
I haven't even posted "Across The Street" very much.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

On the photos you can post them the same as here but you have to fiddle with the steps.
It's a nice forum, with well rounded knowledge from the members. A few arrogant posters there, but then again; I find that the case here and ATS as well.
I like CT and agree each forum serves its own purpose. CT is a more comfortable place for newer and young collectors and they don't feel as threatened to ask basic questions. Also, it is more strictly monitored so I think less experienced people don't feel as threatened as they might on the CU and even NGC forums. However, I do learn more here on the CU forum.
For what it's worth i don't think a fear of asking questions as a noob still prevails here , id agree at one time it was quite true. I plowed ahead anyway and found guys like Bill Jones more than happy and apparantly keen to help , heavy hitters come out the woodwork when a question that interests them is asked.
I have an account at CT and tried mightily to contribute for a few months, but have not been there for two years. There were several issues that led me to stop posting there. The first was that someone else had registered "TomB" as their ID, but then never posted. Even though the name had been registered for several years without a post, the administrator would not release the name for me to use, so I went by "Tom B" and did not like that at all. Also, my older daughter had spent some length of time significantly ill in the hospital and the CT boards just fell by the wayside. Lastly, and very importantly, even though I found that the level of knowledge was lower on average, I also found that there were a small core of posters who were rather ill-informed yet who wrote and acted like they were numismatic savants. That last point annoyed me as much as any other and I didn't feel like swimming upstream anymore in my efforts to give away my experience and knowledge.
