GTG.....27-S Buffalo....Grade Revealed

Trying to decide what to do with this coin. Looking for some opinions.

Excuse the poor photos.

Thanks for your input. Decision I'm trying to make is whether to attempt an upgrade. I hate to lose the OGH as I tend to favor them. The coin actually looks nicer in hand than as my photo presents. In hand the coin has very smooth, flashy, reflective surfaces. Not sure what the technical term would be, but similar to a brilliant proof with mirror like surfaces. I think I'll keep it as is, and maybe shoot for a green/gold bean for now.

I will say 64/65............if it is not a 58...tough to tell from the lighting/photos.

64 and looks like a nice example of a tough date. Hits on forehead and cheek are limiting.

I'm in the 64 with a shot higher camp, and it's a very nice looker ...

but holey-moley, the strike for a 27-S is fantastic!

Actually, I can not remember ever seeing a strike that full on a 27-S

I hate trying to GTG on Buffs via images...........but since you asked!

Looks like some friction on the Buffs front leg..........crack it and resubmit raw

....oh yeah, edited to add, it's in a 58 holder.

  • 64 at best.PCGS is tough on 27-S Buffalos.I have seen better 27-S buff's,and many of them,in PCGS MS64 holders

I am guessing 63, but am notoriously bad at this series.

Lots of 65 qualities to that coin, esp. the strike. But PCGS is very tough on grading gem, key date S mints.

I'd stay with MS64, but see no problem with 64+ either. Don't see it worse than 63 nor better than 65. 64 meets in the middle.
Coloration on these is tuff as well. If you're wondering what to do with this then more likely you were assigned a lower grade than expected.
If it's a liner coin that you've never been able to upgrade it's usually the case that the next hot dealer who handles it gets 'er done and pockets the booty.

    Looks AU58 to me

  • I don't think that coin will upgrade to a 64+. It's worth more in the OGH--keep it there.

  • Take a look at the 27-S in PCGS MS64,Cert. No. 24949703,that is coming up for sale in Heritage's Philadelphia Signature Auction,#1173,if
you want to see how tough PCGS can be on a 27-S Buffalo
