US Mint Gold, Platinum price weekly update - Gold & Platinum prices remain the same this week

Since I am tracking the prices for Gold and Platinum coins purchased directly from the US mint, I thought I would post the changes to the mint prices for the upcoming week, based on the commodity's Wed London close price for these.

I will post the prior weekly average for the spot price, the Pricing Criteria to be used by the mint for the following week, and the upcoming week's US Mint price for a 1 oz Gold Proof eagle (AGE), and 1 oz Platinum Proof Eagle (APE). You can look at the mint's matrix for other coin prices in that range, such as Buffalo gold, etc

This of course does not imply the coins are available for sale, simply what their price would be IF they were available.

7 days ending Jan 4, 2012:

Gold avg: $1581 Criteria #1 (no change) AGE $1835

Plat avg: $1392 Criteria #1 (no change) APE $1692

  • starting 1/12/12, Gold up $50, Platinum remains the same

    7 days ending 1/11/12;

Gold avg: $1620; Criteria #2 (change); AGE (proof) $1885 (up $50 from last week)

Platinum avg: $1436; Criteria #4 (no change); APE (proof) $1692

Platinum Wed close is in the next range, but weekly average is within the same range, so the new price does not change - note though that this indicates a change should be coming next week - probably up $100 per coin.

  • and as of Wed 13:30 Pacific, the mint has changed GOLD prices to the new price.

Anybody know what time on Wednesdays they update prices?

  • The London PM fix happens at 15:00 GMT, so does that mean that the Mint changes prices shortly after 10am eastern?

  • gold close today was $1648. That's down $128 in 3 weeks. if the avg stays below $1650 for the next 4 trading sessions, then the Buff's will be lowered next Wed.

I think I'm gonna wait. Still have time to get some FS eligible a week from now if I would guess.

Why did the SSB gold commem go up in price?

I thought the price of gold has been droping or at least not going up

  • << <i>Why did the SSB gold commem go up in price?

There was a 30 day intro price as is normal with commems. Auto bump in price at the end of that period.

Did the price for the first spouse coins change? Looks like they stayed the same.
  • The First Spouse coins are tagged to the same pricing grid that I refer to in my posts, so if the AGE goes up or down, so does the First Spouse gold coin.
    Gold Coin Pricing grid

However, as was stated above, the Star Spangled Banner coins had a cheaper price ($5 less) for a brief "introductory" period of time, then defaulted back to their "regular price", which is now tied to a commemorative gold pricing grid :

Nooker, I understand the process, but the first spouse coins didn't come down. With gold average at 1644, the first spouse's should be 979 proff and 966 uncirc.

    Thanks for the updates.
