<< <i>I'm seven boxes into my case, and unless I get hot the tears are going to start flowing haha...I probably have at least 5 base sets and almost all of the insert/sp sets, I am probably missing a couple.

    << <i>

Is there any rhyme or reason to the 40 SPs that you noticed ? Are they one from each year set in chronological order, are they reprinted orignals...(I guess they would need a stamp for that)...

It just seems odd that they used a hodge-podge of various card designs and tacked them on to the back of the set....

8 boxes down still nothing big. Just pulled a Dunston and Kingman auto. 2 chances left.
  • Options
Box 9 yields Kruk and George Bell, this sucks bad so far...1 more chance
  • Options
And nothing, box 10 gives me Oscar Gamble and Wally Joyner...I got my butt kicked on this case.

Pulled a Maury Wills in my last box. Selling the Darvish and keeping everything else. A Bake McBride and Oscar Gamble auto is worth to me than the Darvish.

By far my favorite product I've ever broke.

Broke a blaster box and here are the results:

    2 sp's: Buckner and Madlock
2 Topps Archives: 1980 Eddie Murray and 1962 Duke Snider
2 Cloth: Steve Carlton and Eric Hosmer
    1 sticker: Ichiro
1 3-D: Willie Mays which is a very cool card IMHO!image

Neat stuff that brings back the memories! Going to have to spring for a hobby box! Great product.

Just saw that the Michael Young 1984 base "headshot" is from the 2012 Heritage card... wonder if these used others?

and it's not one of his better photos

How bad would it suck if one of your hits was a Karate Kid card? Would make me want to judo chop something.

Anyone pulling 1982 In Action cards or buybacks for that matter?

Only see one on ebay and its stan the man. Stan The Man

Is it possible that the in action and the classic combos cards only come from certain packs, like walmart or target?

I didn't pull any in my 4 boxes but they seem to be plentiful on eBay.

Very interesting. I didnt pull either of these in hobby.

I actually purchased four blasters, so the classic combos were spread out in them, I thought they were seeded two per box (hobby) and the in action one per box, maybe not.

In the few I purchased so far, 4 Walmart blasters, five single and two jumbos:

    1- Chili Davis auto
    9- SPs
    5- 3D
    4- Gold
    5- Deckle
    6- Cloth
    3- Duo
    1- In Action
    10- Reprints
    5- Stickers

Nothing crazy, but fun stuff. The 3Ds are great, reminds me of the old Kellogg's sets.

Inserts are cool, ten times better than Heritage, where it's tough to get excited over your fourth Pope or University of Alabama card.

I will keep going and grab a couple of hobby boxes, although the price seems high.

Topps did me a favor by printing them on index card quality stock or I would have dumped a lot more money in.

Card 22 of Mantle has got to be one of the best I've seen of him.

Edited to up SPs to 9, three were in the 1984 design,

Picked up a few loose packs at Wal Mart to help "decide" if I wanted to bust a hobby box. Pulled an auto
    image

and three SPs: Mattingly, Clark, and Tiant from 3 jumbos and 6 retail packs. Love this set and all the inserts. LMK if you're interested in the Dunston auto.

    I know...sucks!

When I said I had the Palmer...it's just the gold stamped archives card...I hadn't yet realized there was an entire insert set that was retail only. Ugggh.

Anyone see any 83 Mini Sandberg Autos on other boards? Havent seen any on ebay.

Looking up these on ebay I thought this was weird: 2 different Jose Oquendo auto cards? Is he the only player with a variation like this?
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time, it works every time.

    << <i>Jose has 9 different variation. >>

wow, I just did an eBay search and saw what you're talking about. What the heck is up with that? What the reasoning behind so many variations?

edit: I see - one for each position on the field. This pays homage to 1987, when he played every position except for catcher... and 1988, when he played them all. Very, very cool.

I see that Sid Bream did several variations in the cards he signed - lots of different Bible verses. That's my plan for the Butler autos I've got - different inscriptions, including his "trademark" happy face, some Bible verses, and whatever else comes to mind.

I have a lot of 20 fan favorite autos for sale on Ebay that ends tonight as well. I am going to refrain from posting the link in this thread so I don't get skewered for posting a for sale thread on this forum. I will put a thread up in BST board right after this.

Was at the LCS this morning to pick up some supplies and decided to bust some wax too... picked up two boxes... these were my auto hits!

    image

Not bad for me... Dunston & Van Slyke were two players I really liked growing up, so that was pretty cool.

I'd like to complete the set now. Looking at eBay, SP's aren't really fetching much... so I'd like to finish this set as cheaply as possible. Willing to buy and/or trade for my SP needs...

    203, 206, 207, 208, 209, 211, 216, 217, 218, 220, 221, 222, 225, 227, 228, 230, 232, 238, 239

    Availabe for trade, I have...

About two-thirds of the base set (1-200)

Gold Parallels: 32 Adam Jones, 45 Carlos Ruiz, 82 Jose Reyes, 96 Phil Rizzuto

1967 Topps Stickers: Mark Teixeira, Ryan Braun, Roy Halladay

1968 Topps 3D: Al Kaline, CC Sabathia, Matt Kemp

    1969 Deckle Edge: Roy Halladay

1977 Topps Cloth: Eric Hosmer, George Brett, Gary Carter, Roy Halladay, Reggie Jackson, Steve Carlton

Topps Archive Reprints: Darryl Strawberry, Nolan Ryan, Yogi Berra, Tony Gwynn, Joe Morgan, Tom Seaver, Wade Boggs, Larry Doby, Harmon Killebrew

Also willing to trade the Righetti & Kingman autos pictured above

*NOTE: Edited to reflect trades as of 6/10/12
