Looks like the robber picked the wrong store to rob.

    I keep a copy of the NN issue from last year prominently displayed on a coffee table near our entrance, (with the cover page headline article about shop security at A.A.C. in Salt Lake City; the one with the quarter page photo of Bob Campbell holding his shotgun at the ready) it seems to get a good long look from any of the "Slim Shady" entrants. image

    Thing about this one is it said he knew the guy and had done business with him. I think this should be a warning to others about buying from less then respectable patrons. I've seen it dozens of times dead beat druggies in coin shops selling coins, makes me nervous just being in a shop with those kinds of patrons. As always though this is JMHO and BTW I think the thug got what he deserved.

    As I have stated before in other threads on this topic, I believe any brick and mortar coin dealer should be armed and this proves the point. That guy looks like a piece of work from the picture and his rap sheet.

    Am I the only bleeding heart here? A "violent history"? - providing false info, possessing marijuana, a robbery". Based on his previous sentence did it sound like he harmed someone? It seems to me that pulling a gun would deter most criminals such that you wouldn't have to shoot them. I know you guys love the coin dealers killing a robber but unless my life is in danger - which it wouldn't be if I had a gun and he was on the other side of the counter with a knife - I can't see killing someone over material crap. Sorry.

    Mowgli, maybe you didn't bother to comprehend the part about the deceased having inflicted a laceration on the proprietor's ear which required suturing. You think the proprietor wasn't in fear for his life, since the knife blade probably passed very close to his jugular vein or carotid artery? Put the soapbox away please. A mild puncture of either blood vessel would be fatal within a matter of about 3 minutes without skilled medical first aid.

    I support the dealer. The perp was a repeat offender, another example of a failed justice system. More regUlation of gun laws only hurt those who obey the law... They defiantly don't hurt those who don't follow the law.... I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
    WTB... errors, New Orleans gold, and circulated 20th key date coins!

    Wow I didn't even see the picture of the thug before. I read the story here that stated he was a customer of the shop owner before, that is why my earlier statements where made. Now after seeing the picture it further concludes statement that people should be careful who they choose to do business with. Is it really worth the problems not to mention the stuff they probably want to sell is stolen when they do come with business other then to rob you or case the shop. I live near a well known dealer who name I won't mention but they always have people like this in there selling coins and gold jewelery and I'm sure they make a killing off of them, but i'd hate to be the next person to get followed home and robbed because someones casing there store and usually only go there when I see something I really want in their inventory guide. Sorry to keep ranting but I've seen this numerous times in many other B & M's ( druggies fencing their wares).

    That's just a couple of blocks down the road from where my grandparents used to live in the 70s & 80s. Ponderosa Park mobile home park if anyone is familiar with the area. I understand the Bayonet Point area has been developed quite a bit since those days.

    I must agree with you 100%.

    Here in Illinois, however, because of elements from Chicago who are running the state (into the ground and then some), we don't have concealed carry. So dealers in Illinois are, for all practical purposes, are at the mercy of hooligans and "slim shady" wannabes. There have been several attempts to pass concealed carry, but the politicians from Chicago have voted it down. A slap (more like a punch) in the face to downstate folks like me.

    The thought I had was that since this criminal was on probation, was known by the store owner, and made no attempt to hide his identity then the criminal probably planned to kill him. Evil. And they guy had a cross tatooed to his face to add to the perversion.
    Gold and silver are valuable but wisdom is priceless.

    I knew I would get a warm welcome and universal support for my comments. That's why I wrote them. I don't live in a world where I think someone should be killed because of their past or what they look like. Seriously you think the guy's appearance is enough to say the dealer was justified in killing him? That his previous criminal history is enough to justify thinking this kid deserved to die?

    I do not have an issue with an old man fearing for his life and shooting a kid. I do not expect people to think clearly in a dangerous situation. I do think someone who is certified to carry a concealed weapon would have some concept of having a great advantage over a kid with a knife, Of course, I wasn't there and do not know who did what to whom first - apparently some of you do.

    My bigger issue is how many of you seem to actually enjoy that this kids got killed.

    I hope this dfoesn't hurt my chances selling stuff on the BST. image

    Well, I could care less what his tats were or how he chose to decorate his ears. Irrelevant.
    He pulled a knife - relevant. Perhaps he could have been "talked down" - I was not there and don't know. Maybe he did intend to kill as he had no disguise and was known to the dealer. Maybe he was high - trying to rob a coin dealer with a knife is not the brightest idea.
    BUT, if he takes a stab I'd have to interpret that as a real threat and I would shoot him. I'd like to say I'd shoot him in the leg or something. But I would probably kill him. I don't like it, but it is probable.

    Whats with the "Kid" term used repeatedly ? At what point does a kid cease being a kid ? This guy was 25 , at age 21 i had 4 years in the military under my belt , was i still a kid ?

    This thread brings a lot of things to mind, we weren't there, but maybe if the clown was on he other side of the counter the dealer could have pointed the gun and told him to scram, or freeze, but as it turned out he was shot in the chest. Maybe the guy drew down on him and the perp raised his hands and then the guy shot him, maybe he was swinging the knife when it happened. We won't know, but Mr Justice was well within his rights and I don't get much satisfaction from the fellows death.

    Let me guess - you're against abortion but not against killing.

    BTW - I do not think there should be a death row but rather a death waiting room - I believe in swift punishment.

    I agree with him, some of you are really lame to revel in a shooting of a kid even if it was legally permitted.
