Not as much at that grade level. I think it would bother me more if it was dark rather than light. Of course, I would prefer it not be there, so it would bother me to some extent. I probably wouldn't buy it.

Yes, I hate spots of any kind and will not buy any coin with a spot.
Based on the many responses to this thread I can understand why so many coins get dipped. I had a dealer tell me once that he hated to dip coins with less than attractive toning but if he didn't no one would buy them and he was in the business of selling coins.

I find the look attractive, but the spot not so much. Circulated coins that look like new [unless they're 58s] or washed out are a turnoff IMO.

looks to me like someone has removed most of the tarnish and what you see is a drop the brown is what did not lift off with a simple bath.

Not that much. The coin is an EF-40, and that grade level you can expect something now and then. As someone else said, it would bother me more if it were a black spot. That is silver corrosion. In that case I would pass. If it were graded as a Choice Mint State piece, that would be another story.
There is a little round spot like that on an 1807 quarter I've got. I don't know exactly what caused it. It's probably some anomaly in the alloy.
The "splotchy" toning is something you might expect on a coin that was pulled out of circulation after only a few years of "making the rounds" and might have spent a number of years in an old purse with a few other coins. It looks natural to me.
Not all toning is drop dead gorgeous. In fact most of it is either neutral, which is how I would view this toning, or ugly. As you posted earlier, this is why coins get dipped, and one of the reasons why coins that shouldn’t get dipped get dipped anyway.
I'd buy this coin if I wanted for my collection, but like everything else, it depends on the price. I would not pay a premium for it.
