Show your errors on Proof coins.

It has been said that Proof coins are supposed to be the highest examples of the minter's art. One should expect that quality control is important to help insure that. Lucky for us, every once in awhile a small error is overlooked. I've imaged a "strike thru" on one of the WW-I Proofs. Let's see some more.

Small error, but not so small for a proof. Good catch and image.

I've got some sort of a struck thru something error on the golden dollar of a 2000 proof set.

    It's called a Rim Burr.

I have a considerable amount of proof coins... sets as well as ASE's and AGE's.... I have yet to find an error... and I have looked carefully. Cheers, RickO

IMO, they are more common on modern coins as mintages are higher and...I won't say what I'm thinking. LOL

I once handled a gorgeous proof trade dollar. It had a lint strike through in the right obv. field that was big enough it looked like a small worm. It looked like a 65+ Cameo but was graded 64 likely due to the strike through.

These days on modern coins like a SE, in many cases, a TPGS will still grade the piece PR-70!

I've posted this one before. I have a couple other proof errors too, but I can't find my SD card right now : (

Proof errors can be just as dramatic as errors on regular-production coins. The releases of proof errors from the 1970s was a gift to proof error collectors.

I posted this recently. Not sure if it's error, but doesn't look natural to me, and unsure on where the terminology rests for re-engraved and doubled die, or how engraved proofs work etc if such is the case.

I think it's a proof error I mean it definitely doesn't look normal.

I have a early 1970s (I think) proof set somewhere with a dime in it that looks like it's bent. It's sealed in the original hard plastic case.

Not sure when in the striking, handling and packaging process this would have happened. Does not look like there's any damage on the coin, like marks, scratches, etc., but it's bent.

I think that I sent a picture into CW or NN decades ago but don't remember if I ever got and answer.

Would this be an error? I would think probably not if it happened during handling or packaging, but it's unusual anyway.

Yes, I'll try to find it and post a picture.

Bent like an upside down bottle cap?

  • sellitstoresellitstore Posts: 3,053 ✭✭✭✭✭

No, the opposites edges aren't bent but more like a single bend or curve over the whole coin.

I collect 1970 error dimes. Would love to see pics. I've got a couple that would fit that description, partially at least, looking forward to seeing it!
