What is wrong with THE US MINT!!!!!

And this edge lettering on Sacagawea Dollars?????
I HATE IT!!!!!!
You can hardly see it in a slab,,,,,, half the time the date and / or mint mark is covered up!!!!!
You can't see the edge if you put it in an albulm and therefore all the coins since edge lettering began all look the same on the Sacagawea side!!!!!!
Oh yea,,,,,, did I say that I HATE edge lettering!!!!!!!!!
OK, I need to breathe now,,,,,
Edited to add,,,,,,
Who is the GENIUS that came up with this idea?????? He or she should be FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Somehow I don't think the US Mint is too concerned about how the design of a coin will appear in a slab or an album.
See http://www.doubledimes.com for a free online reference for US twenty-cent pieces
Well they should be,,,,,,, we are their customers and they should try to please us!!!!!!
Too bad you cannot talk to the designers of 18th century US coins. Oh, include all the foreign coins too. What about the HR $20. I hate all of them too.
PS, AFAIK those coins and presidential dollars cause the TPGS's to develop the "prong" inserts allowing much of the edge to be seen.
Speak for yourself. The only products I purchase from the Mint are sold before I even se them. They could make a coin shaped like a carrot and I still would not keep it! They should hire Mr. Carr as a consultant. LOL.
...this is why we legalized pot in California...you need to burn one down and take your shoes off pal...let the 1st world problems melt away into nothingness, when they start to come back....roll up another one...keep that up till you forget why you started and then your cured
I don't think this anything to do with the US Mint - Congress passes the laws and tells the Mint what coins to make, and usually specifies design elements (with a few exceptions).
Since Congress passes the laws, and you elect your Senators and Congressmen, it is ultimately YOUR fault.
The date and mint marks are very important to many collectors, and putting those two devices on the edge, especially for a coin that only pleases collectors is pretty dumb. Most collectors use albums or slabs, so why not put those devices where collectors can see them? There is plenty of space in the design to include the date and mint mark on the obverse or reverse of the coin. I guess someone at the mint thinks putting those items on the edge is cute.
Buy one of the Missing Edge Lettering error Sacs,
and you won't have to worry about not seeing
anything on the edge.
I once tried such a thing when I was 17 yrs old but I could never inhale so the mad reefer never did anything for me.

I just hate that the date is on the edge, otherwise I like edge lettering.

Agreed,,,, put the date and mint mark where it is supposed to be,,,, to the lower RH side of Sacagawea's chin and I will be happy.
They can put whatever else they want on the edge.
Nostradamus predicted coins would "one day be given refuge from abuse in slices of transparent matter concealing their third side".

It because of the limited approved artwork and the spineless need to not offend anyone.

For the record I don't like edge lettering on the Presidential Dollar's either but since they are ended I will let it go.
If you want to see and read the edge of coins when in a TOG slab, discuss that with the TPGs not the U.S. Mint. Their obligation is to produce circulation coinage.

How is that working out for them?
Not a lot of it circulating.
Does that citizen coinage board still exist? I forget what they're called.
If so, do they listen to collectors at all or just non-collectors in hopes to help the mint prosper?

O.k., let the California bashing begin. I give up. We deserve it.
Interestingly enough, edge lettering appeared on half dollars and early silver dollars from the late 1700's and early 1800's. So I suppose it's a retro thing. I also don't like it in holders but it seems like the lettering and dates are so tiny on the edge that they are really hard to see anyways!
The date was not on edge. That makes a big difference.
I was waiting for this...LOL. I started to put it in my answer but that would give the OP's bitching some ammo.
Sound familiar:
.
the fact of having a right to something.
•the amount to which a person has a right.
•the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.
example: "no wonder your kids (or GRANDAM) have a sense of entitlement"
The Mint makes many issues for collectors, they should try to please their customers.

Buy numeric metal punches '0' to '9' and hand-punch the date onto the coin.

Political Correctness is what's wrong with the U.S. Mint. We all know it. Why ask? Are we not MEN?
Crickets...crickets....crickets......
Please continue to breath first of all @GRANDAM and then take your mind off....don't buy the coin

There are more unfortunate occurrence in life.....and this is nothing as to evoke HATE....just LOVE my brother
The U.S. Mint exists to supply coins for commerce. Coins for collectors are a minor side light. The minute the mint starts caring what a coin for commerce looks like in an album or a slab, they have lost their way.

I know that everybody's got them, got them' ....Well... this is not one of my problems... well...come to think of it, I don't have any problems...Just having fun, eating good food and drinking good wine...
This thread reinforces why, other than the chess club, coin collectors got beat up the most in school.
Maybe the mint should hire the person that is advocating gaining permission from babies before changing their dirty diapers: Parents should ask their babies’ permission before changing their diapers — in order to advance a “culture of consent” in the home, a sexuality and relationships expert said.
Deanne Carson told Australia’s ABC News in an interview that a parent could say something along the lines of, “I’m going to change your nappy [i.e., diaper] now, is that OK?”
@mustangmanbob .... I read that article... One of the most ridiculous things I have seen in this age of rampant stupidity...Cheers, RickO

The mint makes cents, not sense. Edge lettering to me is not a big deal though, as I don't collect anything with edge lettering. I have some 20 francs, but consider them bullion.
Astute collectors for years have been insisting that there are three sides to a coin, and maybe the mint is just trying to remind us.
Got a call today. The old fellow wanted to know if I wanted to buy all of his golden dollars. He had thousands and thousands of dollars worth of rolls of uncirculated coins from the US mint. I reminded him that he paid a 40% premium for those , including the shipping ...and that we were kind of stuck losing 40% of our money since there aren't any collectors who want to buy them.
That is my favorite Neil Young album. Mrs. Hydrant and I had some good times listening to it. Ahh....memories!!!!!
What a great classic....what an area that was
Thank you!

Update, I printed several labels over the weekend and I found that sometimes the eBay site will say postage is $3.50. I didn't have any insurance by anyone selected and I went back and double checked. It still wasn't giving me the eBay discount making postage cost = $2.66. After trying everything to get the discount I finally clicked on purchase postage and when it printed the discount was there and the cost was $2.66
In conclusion sometimes the eBay discount doesn't show up until you print the label.
Look at some Bust half $'s.

Don't yell at the Mint. Blame CONgress. Here is the law that authorized the Presidential dollars:

I don't know if I'll live long enough to compile all the voluminous the material for my book, "What's Wrong with the US Mint?"
And don't get me started on Congress.
I knew it would happen.
