I asked my GF, what she thinks, her reply was " i would get more enjoyment out of the LV bag" So i asked he why

    1. A nice accsesory i like wearing.
    2. You can show it off on a night out.
    3. It looks good on your side and can match what your wearing.
    4. You will deffently get more practical use our of it.
    5. All the other girls will complement you when carrying it.
    6. You don't have to lock it in a SDB. (Like i do with my toys)
    7. I just get to enjoy it much more frequently.

She went on and on and on and it started her questioning me on my purchases. So I thru in the only con I could come up with, which is resale value, the purse will most likely depreciate depending.

Her reply: " gold, silver or any of your so called collector coins could too.

Ill Let her buy what makes her happy, and she will leave me alone. I ended the conversation. And let her shop on Amazon. Im sorry i brought it up. Lol.

Actually, you don't have to lock up your coins in an SDB either... if you are willing to have them ripped off if your home is broken into. After all, the LV bag would most likely get stolen if a thief broke into the owner's house.

Personally, I prefer to get high quality pix of my coins so I can "see" them on my computer anytime, and then keep the coins in the SDB. I can always visit them there if I'm in a touchy feely mode...

I do have raw coins at home, but they're my less expensive coins... raw Washingtons, Franklins etc. I certainly have more valuable Washingtons, Franklins et al., but they're in slabs anyhow, and in the SDB.

I collect because i love history. History has enchanted me from a very early age, and since I can't travel back in time the least I can do is document a small piece of the past. I care more about documenting than actually collecting to be honest!

As for the bag vs. coins debate...put coins in the bag. Problem solved! :)

My Dad and older brothers collected coins and that got me started. I love the history and the aesthetics of coins.

Grandma collected. We lived with her YEARS ago, when Mom got divorced and moved back, cross country, to live with her parents for a little while...and then moved into a house down the block.

Started me collecting but, when I was ~9-10 years old, I bought some circulated old common coins, and got ripped off. I didn't know better, my mom didn't collect, and Grandma was too far away...way before internet. I made the mistake of thinking I could trust the dealer (comic book/coin dealer combo).

So, finally realizing I was ripped off, I stopped for years. Got back into it when my son was born and ended up with some of Grandma's coins (she sold a lot to some dealer in Pahrump to pay the bills and got ripped off herself on many of them, I found out after she passed away).
So, I still have those, in memory of her, and have a few sets with my son, and some on my own.

I started doing some gold as well, but not to collect, just to hold.

Mom and an uncle started doing coins 20+ years ago as well.....Mom had only stuff from pocket change or from Mint as new product, or stuff I gave her, that she liked, later, before her passing. Those are now back in my possession. Uncle gave up collecting, due to vision issues, about 15 years ago. He had many SHQs and a few other things. Nothing slabbed. I have most of that now....purchased from him to help him out.

I will say that I certainly do agree with something the OP said....discretionary income into coins/bullion, isn't a bad thing.....as long as one does it smartly. Cuts back on a lot of other spur of the moment purchases that may be quite wasteful.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Buying coins is not spending money. It's conversion.

I say Judith Leiber crystal couture for sheer collectability.
