Good for you. I missed the deadline for this - which is too bad because I used to use them all the time when I was CRHing

That has to be one of the largest ever payouts from a Class Action. I got around $100 from an AMEX one some years ago and I thought that was enormous.

I always participate in Class Actions when I am eligible. I have gotten checks for less than a dollar, and a recent one for $10 was a real windfall as far as these cases go.

I am waiting for a check...should be here in a couple of weeks...not from this one though. Should be substantial. Cheers, RickO

I was awarded a Bigly amount then the Court reversed it. These can take decades. Glad I did not buy that island and Jaguar on credit.

That is a shame. You could sue them on your own in small claims using this as a basis lol.

I might be wrong since I am not a lawyer (or maybe that increases my odds of being correct :D ?), but I believe that once a lawsuit is certified as a Class Action by the court, all of those who are impacted by the "crime" are considered class members, whether they participate or even know about it or not. You usually have to file with the court to be excluded in order to be able to go after them as an individual claimant.

Yes, I believe that is the case, so I'm slightly confused as to why he "missed the deadline" unless that was the deadline to opt out lol.

There is always a filing deadline to claim the loot. Sounds like he missed it.

Right - I remember looking at the deadline last year and realizing that i was too late to become a complaintant.

Good luck spending it. I should have stuck with coins and pms. I got several hundred bucks on a class settlement of ccme at a loss of over $10K; I was outraged and tried to make inquiries for the penny ante refund and contacted my senator which has not been helpful.

  • gripgrip Posts: 9,962 ✭✭✭✭✭

Sure beats what I received from Comcast....Good job.

I feel your pain as they say, but by the time it reaches class action status (if that is what yours was, , vs. a bankruptcy) the ones who make out the most are the lawyers who handle the case. The claimants are almost an after thought. Yours sounds like it could have been a bankruptcy, though, as most class actions beneficiaries were not expecting anything and are happy to get what they get.

I used to look up my name all the time here to see if I had any money coming to me in California, you can look up yours or others as well in your state to see if you or they have any money owed to you or them. Here is a link for California https://sco.ca.gov/upd.html

Just look for your state control office.
Some make a lot of money doing this for you and get 40% when they find it for you can be big $$$ some times.

If any of you guys ever need help with telecommunications hardwire or wiring or damage done to your property on installs or faulty home alarms etc, I'm willing to help. I've seen people paid 300 bucks for 6000 damage. One of my former employers got sued by people who were not going to accept damage done to his home. My boss "reshingled" a clay whatever roof and paid materials to not go to court. Let me know if any of you ever need help with that sort of thing. I wouldn't mind.

Would be interesting to see what amount a lawsuit would be if the Coinstar machines would be found to short change people. That amount would be large with the amount of transactios done.

To those who got payment what amount was paid per what was claimed.

They estimated 26 cents per $100.

Td deposited 15.04 in my account on the 19th for this. I never did anything to opt in or out or fill anything out.

I used the Penny Arcade machines twice and was shorted both times. Luckily I knew exactly how much I was dumping as I started with ten rolls of halves, the machine registered $94.50...they credited me when I complained. It was about the same amount the second time and they again credited me. I will have to look at my TD statement closely this month to see if I get my payout.

On the one or occassions I have recd a small check like that I make sure to cash it. If they are absurd enough to send it i am absurd enough to cash it.

These days with the ability to deposit a check by taking a picture or scan I'd do it that way so I could keep the paper check as a memento.

They make payouts in class action lawsuits now by PayPal? That's the first time I have seen this done.

  • cameonut2011cameonut2011 Posts: 10,181 ✭✭✭✭✭

P.S. Did you end up eating the 3% PayPal fee?

  • MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 34,683 ✭✭✭✭✭

The paper money counters have errors, too

Paypal said they rejected payment from this settlement. I see checks and cash deposits. I also did not opt in.

Yes, but this is a settlement already approved by the court and disbursed now... There is no reversing this.

Did you have to pay a PP fee? I assume they sent it via PP.
