Strange sale on ebay in that once sold buyer asked me to ship with signature confirmation as he said he's had problems with deliveries in the past. I asked buyer to pay the addition charge for signature confirmation as I offered free shipping only. He paid and I shipped as requested.
Delivered on Saturday at 11:53am and signed for by "BC" which does not match buyers first or last initial. Buyer sent me a note saying he saw that it showed as delivered and asked if I sent with signature confirmation which I replied that yes I did. Said he'll check Monday with his PO to see what he can find as it has not shown up at his home.
So, today the buyer opens a case against me on ebay. I sent him the PO info that it was signed for by "BC" but don't know what if anything I can do from my location.
So, be on the look out for this wonderful MS64, 1878cc Morgan Dollar. Brentwood, Tennessee is buyers location.

I realize it is too late for this coin, but I believe the USPS offers a "restricted delivery" service that only allows mail or packages to be received by the addressee. This is different than Signature Confirmation, which merely requires a signature or initials from someone.

If it shows delivered and signed for eBay is on the hook not you. Been my past experience.
I do agree that it's not on me (I hope). Just wanted everyone to be on the lookout......I'm sure buyer is just trying a scam. I google earthed his address and he's in a wonderful upscale subdivision and not likely there would be delivery problems there.

It shows delivered and to his E bay address deal done, It happen to me once but the ebay buyer change his address days before the item was delivered, I had printed out a receipt that had his old address that he wanted me to ship to that is what saved me. I did $85K a week on ebay but stop doing it just because it's to EZ to get the banana from the buyer. I have to many store's to post like others here it's not a auction any more its a store with a 100% return guarantee made by Ebay with your money they lose nothing and either way you'll pay, There are some crazy scams out there.

Could be an honest situation, but could also be that he wanted to make sure you were covered so as to eliminate you from the equation while he ran scam. Not sure what his scam would be, though - maybe chargeback on credit card?
Post Office has a feature I have never heard of before. One of the prior forum members alerted me to the feature called "geo tracking" . This will show exactly what house it was deliver to.....new to me but alerted buyer to ask his PO to geo track.

As a previous seller on Amazon with a quarter million dollars in sales every year , the only way to protect myself was signature confirmation. But it didn't mean no negative feedback.
Anyhow. I just ordered a giant my little pony play set from ebay for my daughters. It is marked as delivered but never receive. I contacted the seller to trace it down or file a claim with FedEX. But the seller basically said it was not his problem once the package marked as delivered with tracking.
I am certain that FedEx delivered to the wrong address and lost the toys since my security camera did not record any FedEx truck that day. Let's see how it play it out as tomorrow will be the day I will be able to file a claim against the seller on ebay.

I've never understood why they let ANYONE sign for a package that requires a signature. Seems pretty obvious you want the person it is addressed to to sign. Brentwood is a REALLY nice area, by the way. It's where all the country music stars live.
It is a low value item compare to yours. However after working 20 plus days straight without a day off to spend time with them. The last thing I want is to disappoint them after I told them the toys would be there. I was on the phone with FedEx for hours within two days. And they finally admitted a high possibility of wrong delivering address while encouraging me to ask the seller to file a claim and reship.
Maybe it is Toby Keith running a scam to get free silver dollars.
If he has that much trouble with delivery of mail, he should get a PO box.
EBay requires only DC for items under $750 and signature confirmation for anything higher than that.

My wife used to work at a Christian radio station there. The staff was invited to Melissa Reeves house for a cookout once. Her and her husband apparently were/are stars on days of our lives.
The carrier is the one that's going to be on the hook for this.

Bob...is the PO confirming that the package delivered to the correct Ebay/Paypal address of the buyer? Carriers have been known to deliver to the wrong address. If that is the case and the package is uninsured, you carry the liability.
Post Office has not said anything as of yet as far as I know. They told the buyer that they will investigate. Whatever that means and how long, I don't know.
I self insure under $1,000.

Yes, if the seller delivers to the registered ebay address and the PO says it's delivered, the seller has done all they can be required to do. The buyer has no recourse against the seller at this point. However, as the seller of this dollar I'm very happy to assist the buyer in obtaining what he paid for by any means I can. I'm 2,500 miles away so there is really little that I can do. If it's a scam and he's pulled this on his PO before this will be noted and he may just be in a bunch of trouble but we'll see.
He might get reimbursed by ebay (just to please him) especially if the PO can't prove it's been delivered to his ebay address. I do believe the PO will figure it out.

Bob...Let me try this again. If the PO delivers to the provided Paypal/Ebay address you are covered. if they messed up (as they have in other instances) you are SOL.
Have you confirmed that the delivery address was the same as the package was addressed to?
That would be my first order of business.

Legally my obligation is to get it to the buyer. I've done that.

I would always contact ebay on problems like this not here. I often ship with signature required with more valuable items.
I would like to hear what forum members think about options other than registered Postal Service. In other words, other than quicker why use options that are less secure?
I have used it for years with no problems and I only seen one forum complaint recently about the delivery service.
I recall years ago that the Mint sent everything to me registered and it was in bulletproof boxing and most of the time very well packaged.
As a matter fact, I still have some sealed boxes of assorted “salad day” Mint products.
I didn't ask for help. I just wanted the community to be on the lookout for the dollar.
Still would like to find it.

As for my missing ponies, Ebay denied my claim and stated the seller provided a tracking that was delivered. Then I went for appeal and made the phone call. After two transfers, ebay decided to refund in full.
As mentioned previously by myself & others, that would be the only outcome. Once again, if the item indicates "delivered," and the PO delivred to a wrong address and the shipping label was generated to the address of record, you are covered under the buyers protection

I'm glad it worked out; if the guy was lying, there is probably a similar history of that with him. If it were stolen you could report it to Numismatic Crime, also HA has a section to report stolen items.

I think that only works if the carrier has a GPS equipped scanner.
Esp. with registered mail. Letting anyone sign for it at the destination seems to compromise the whole security aspect of RM IMO.

I am sorry this happened...IMHO the USPS should be responsible to explain exactly who the released the parcel to.
