A new "Top Dog" for the 1950-64 Proof Registry set

No it's not me...I wish.

I just received the PCGS notification email that my primary registry set has moved down a spot in the rankings. It appears there is a new "Top Dog" for the 1950-1964 Proof Registry Set. D.L. Hansen has taken over the top spot from ErasmusHall, who had reclaimed the top spot from the Churchill set since the last June 30 deadline. I would love to see images of his 1952 68 DCAM Lincoln, that thing is way out there on its own, the next best are 3 65 DCAM's. Here is a link to the current standings: 1950-1964 Proof Set

Talk about a heated battle...perhaps I should offer a few of my top coins for top dollar to help keep the battle at the top red hot.

Nope...not gonna happen...though as always ridiculous moon money offers are welcome.

    Congrats to D. L. Hansen.

However, did Mr./Ms. Hansen follow your path in putting together a 1950-1964 Proof Registry Set?

Did he/she assemble the set mostly from raw coins that he/she looked for, found and had graded?

Did he/she make his current #1 registry set "the old fashioned way? (in the words of the actor who played the law professor in the 1970's Ryan O'Neal movie The Paper Chase, who also did Smith Barney commercials: Did he "EARN IT"?).

Whether by a pile of cash or a pile of perseverance, both are impressive routes to #1 of that particular set.

(Though thanks for the subtle nod.)

    Good for D.L.!
(Pushed me down to #6 though.....)

I hope that we can see more photos of the pieces in that set. What is currently shown is a nice mix.

D.L. Hansen is also #1 in the Classic Head quarter eagle race. Like Avis Rent a Car, I am #2.

I once had a vision of taking the top spot there once I completed my set, I can't complain. Unlike one situation where a guy nosed me out ATS by working the system with the NGC point game, Hansen simply has better stuff. One look at his 1834 $2.50, which by the picture is one the the best Classic Head Quarter Eagles I have seen, told me I was beat dead to rights. He even has his own custom PCGS labels. I just bought one of his "rejects" in an auction.

It's like the New York Yankees were in the late '40s and early '50s. They had so many good players in their farm system that they could trade them off and stock the rest of the team's in the American League potential all stars and still win year after year.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

It is nice to have the best set, however, at that level, there are no losers...... Very, very nice coins. Cheers, RickO

I see any set in the top 5 as Consensus Condition set. That is a great accomplishment. I have not read DLH long term goals, but if he in this for 10 to 20 years, his sets will be unimaginable.
