1894 Morgan - Slide Marks?
This 1894 Morgan Dollar has scratches on the obverse that look kind of weird - not typical "hairlines" from cleaning, and there are none of these whatsoever on the reverse. The scratches also appear to have "toned over" over the years. Are they "slide marks" from an album? If not, what were they likely from?

Those look deeper than slide marks or "cabinet friction" IMO

IMO, not slide marks from an album. Direction and severity wrong.
Slide marks are thinner and not as deep. They are also frequently concentrated in one place on the highest part of the coin's design.
Thanks, they just look rather bizarre. Such a shame, I like the toning and the reverse has no such scratches.
That one wiggled as it slid into 2nd base. Photos shows multiple scratches and other abuse. Too bad....
the marks in front of the nose look to me like it could be from a staple.
Best place to buy !

I've seen worse get straight (but net) graded assuming I'm seeing all the issues in the two obv only pics. TPGs are kind of "generous" when net grade slabbing key dates.
Album slide marks are hairline size in nature, those are way beyond hairline scratches.
Slid across a cement floor or the ground or the sidewalk?
Definitely more than album slide marks ... too bad... Those are deep....and it appears there are two different sets of marks.. Cheers, RickO

That's a real shame because otherwise it looks like a great coin.
I could still probably look past the marks and take in the coin as a whole and not be overly bothered with it if the price was right.
