Some President James Monroe movie prop coins.

They were manufactured by the Los Angeles Rubber Stamp company for film studios starting in the 1920's.

Movie prop coin - President Monroe - Monroe Doctrine
Aluminum, 35mm, 3.87gm

This token was manufactured by the Los Angeles Rubber Stamp Company for the Los Angeles Monroe Doctrine Centennial Exposition which was held in 1923. The token misspells the word "doctrine" with "doctrone". The United States also made a commemorative half dollar for the Exposition.

The next two are generic President Monroe tokens. They are hard to sell or buy on the internet as they have no text inscriptions.

Very interesting. I didn't know that these pieces existed.

Since all of the films in 1923 were silent, can I assume that these were only used in silent movies?

I have seen the Monroe tokens in films from the 1940's and 1950's.

One is in the serial film "Atom Man vs Superman" from 1950. Also one is in "Kim" from 1950.

I have "Atom Man vs. Superman" in my collection. I'll have to look for that, but there is a lot of footage. It was something like a 16 part serial.

I did not realize people collected movie tokens... or magic tokens... Not really surprised, if it exists, someone, somewhere, will collect it...Cheers, RickO
