These notes are destined to make their obligatory appearance in my local brick and mortar dealer’s junk box after he purchases them from their now hapless original buyers.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Yikes --- I misread the title the first time. Thought it said:
"The All-New U.S. $2 Presidential Balls Collection"

Sorry! I just can't believe that showed up in my mail today!

But then, yesterday I got a call from a coin telemarketer, telling me I was stupid to turn down his offer of selling me an NGC-AU55 1855 Type 2 gold dollar for the low, low, LOW price of $695 (when the most recent auction results show them at $384-$408). He said I was stupid because I could easily turn around and sell it for a few hundred dollars profit! :o

    I don't care for them.

    The "bills" or "balls?" ;)

So now there will be prezzy two dollar bills??? The coin failure was not sufficient message to the Mint?? I cannot believe currency collectors (other than perhaps some youngsters) will be interested in this program. What's next? A hag series too? Yes, the Mint is doing what the Post Office did to stamps....Cheers, RickO

    ewww, thats not for me.

@ricko it's not the mint (or more properly the BEP) - it's some private company.

    Either way, it's horrific.

@BStrauss3...Thank you, I did not read it all... glad it is not the mint anyway....I should have magnified the ad and read it... Cheers, RickO

Wait a minute....you haven't even heard the BEST part!

The letter that accompanied the offer provides this Guarantee:
"You are guaranteed the low introductory price of just $24.95* per issue (plus $4.95 each for shipping and service) for the entire series -- regardless of how the value or demand for this U.S. legal tender currency may grow over time."

With a guarantee like that, how can you lose? :p

If you don't want the box, ecoin has the 44 bill set in a binder for only $649.95 but they're sold out. When I first got the flyer, I thought it was a private mint knockoff of the $2 but then it says legal tender and colorized by the Merrick Mint. OMG

I dunno.............. might be an interesting and refreshing take on the $2 bill if they were offered at just $2 as part of an actual BEP program. Colorful & informative. Can tell a much better story than the Prez $1 coins could.........

That is nasty. I don’t like it even a tiny bit.

This will go nicely with my "Tribute Proof" gold buffalo (with 24 mg PURE gold), and my gold plated "Tribute" quarters.

    Two thoughts...

/1/ What if we all bought #1 and then cancelled. They would have 100s of collections that could not be completed... (yeah, waste of $30, but)

/2/ When they said Presidential Bills, I was thinking of George's bill for stabling his horse, Jefferson's bill for "Services Rendered" from Lewis & Clark, etc.

we get these in from time to time and the price referenced explains the disheartened expression on faces when we offer face value.
