Random coin drops.

I was wondering if anyone here has dropped some random unusual coins back into circulation such as maybe date less Buffalo Nickels, wheat cents, maybe even some worn out silver?
Back in the day of my collecting proofs, I would crack open sets and occasionally spend a proof coin. I actually received a proof coin back in change one day. It's happen to me only 1 time.
Any thoughts???
Later, Paul.

I wont with silver or proofs, but I do sometimes with my leftovers from older mint sets.
How com quarters are never used for these dropps? Just not popular enough?
I've done it a couple of times with proofs that had issues and the left overs from a few mint sets.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Where do you think all the Coin Star funds come from, lol.
No I have not, as I only collect AU and AG and a few albums.

If you throw a Wheatie or two and some dateless Buffs back into circulation, you could brighten up someone's day.
I've done it.

I have circulated dateless Buffalo nickels, and a wheaties every now and then.
I'm too frugal to liberate silver.
A few decades ago I used to spend buffalo nickels with dates, and many of the recipients were surprised and pleased to receive them. These days I occasionally spend uncirculated wheat cents (from a 1958-D roll I cracked open), two-dollar bills, and current-dated Kennedy halves (I buy two rolls from the Mint each year). Inexpensive entertainment, and maybe it will get a few people interested in collecting coins.

No, I've never done it !!!
I have seen many posts here over the years of people putting Buffs and Wheaties back in circulation.... Once, someone said they spent a couple of IHC's....I have not done it, I keep Buffs and Wheaties... I found a 1929S Wheatie on the market floor early this week... that was a surprise. Cheers, RickO
I do with some wheats and older nickels. its kinda fun to do
I routinely spend "interesting" stuff.
I've done dateless Buffs and duplicate Wheaties.

Nope... I'm a hoarder... I keep everything.
You, my friend, have done a great service to nurture potential future coin collectors.

I've done it with dated buffers, IHC's etc at the school book fair. Also gave out Ikes, half dollars and $2 bills - then a kid came in bought up all the twos and later I found out he was selling them to his friends for $5 each.
I buy a roll or two of dated Buffs every several months . . . . mix in a Buff or two with every cash purchase. McDonalds . . . . a few other places where I still use cash instead of a card. I just keep them mixed in my change in the center console of the truck . . . . . .

I cleaned some rusted steel cents, handed out packages of ten or more to each coin club member, and asked them to distribute, as they wish.
I drop IHCs, Wheaties, Kennedys and Ikes into circulation sometimes. Ikes can be fun as part of a cash tip.
We give Kennedys to trick-or-treaters on Halloween.
The grandkids get various obsolete money in their stockings every Christmas. This year, it was a roll of Kennedys each.
I got a dateless buffalo out of a vending machine at work a couple weeks ago. I've used some dateless buffalo's and well worn Liberty nickles in vending machines.
Looking for PCGS AU58 Washington's, 32-63.
Fun tip to really mess with a waitress: One Ike, One SBA, One Sac, one kennedy. Pretty cheap fun, and highlights some lesser known coins.
Should've asked if he needed a job haha
I put dateless buffs and junk Wheaties (really worn or full of verdigris ) in a bag with all my coin change and give to my grandkids. They spend it wherever. I give waitress's at 2 of my favorite restaurants silver dimes, quarters and halves as tips. Now when I ask them if they want a $3.00 or quarter tip, they all opt for the quarter, and I get good table seating and excellent service.

Years ago I had a punch made that says SPEND ME and every once in a while I counterstamp a small pile of bicentennial quarters, JFK half dollars, or dateless buffalo nickels.
I spend some "circulating quality" S mint ATB Quarters so that there are some in actual circulation.

That is an inventive way to tell people what to do with your 'drops'
I might try that.

I actually got 5 dateless buffalo nickels once at a local supermarket, since they ran out of quarters, and dimes. Later, I decided to spend 2 of them mixed in with the modern coins at a Pizza Hut take out. The cashier at first was confused, but I had to explained that these are five cent coins, and they gladly accepted them... LOL !!!

It's just the proper etiquette.

I don't collect holed coins. At any rate, they would ruin the Coinstar machine.
