Is no one bother to consider the quarters painted with fingernail polish probably contain led and are a hazard? especially so for small children who swallow them. The medical needs of our youth should be considered over the value of pop machine conveniance. Soda's not good for you anyways.

If your child swallows a quarter, the possibility of ingesting a trace amount of lead from fingernail polish is the least of your problems!

Or maybe the intent was to add lights to the quarter? And a push button for on/off? Light up the eagle's eyes? Maybe the stars will twinkle?

Another innovation that's been done already.

The following is a 2003 Palau coin so it could be slabbed, but then you couldn't press the coin to light it up!

The rarest Corvette model year now makes its debut on this officially-licensed 71 mg .925 silver clad commemorate colorized coin. The headlamps light up when the Corvette logo on reverse is pressed. Privately minted as non-circulating legal tender of the Republic of Palau. Comes with numbered Certificate of Authenticity. Standard 39 mm silver dollar size.

It gets real concerning when that child passes 2 dimes and a nickel. :o

Ok, maybe keep the quarter (I haven't completely made up my mind: was going to start a Kickstarter campaign to promote this idea), how about instead we get rid of the half dollar. Outside of Las Vegas slot machines it isn't used that much. Keep the quarter and get rid of the half. Most cash register tills don't have the space anyways.
If we are successful as a group we can then go after the dollar coin and maybe gather the strength to attack the cent.

There are no 1/2 dollar slot machines in Las Vegas.........come visit and see for yourself.

The illuminati are making bank off those corvette coins, it's no wonder they want led illuminated quarters.

What do you press to light them up?

    Eliminate the quarter?

Given the influence of the vending machine industry, I can't see that happening in 2020. The half dollar is dead. The dollar coin has no following. Cents, nickels and dime have no to little buying power. So long as vending machines need gem quality paper money to work, coins will continue. If you are ready to stick your credit or debit card in vending machines, remember what happens to too many credit cards that are used at gas stations.

In short, this prediction is premature.

I think it would be much neater if that coin from Palau, when pressed, not only lit up the headlights/taillights, but also revved-up like a Vette engine!! THEN I might even order one for my cousin - - a big-time Corvette aficianado.

Congress got upset with the Mint Bureau for running those, and put an end to them. That coincides with decreases in sales and increases in fakes and misleading private ads.

Hell at the rate this current administration (if you can call it that) is creating debt we may be eliminating the dollar, tens, twenties and hundreds by the year 2020. Good news is our currency washes well so will at least retain value as toilet paper.

If my kids had passed 3 dimes and two nickels, they'd be on a straight diet of quarters, believe me.

One must not disdain such a learned post.

Whereas, the_ illuminati_ has pontificated that no quarter shall be shown to the quarter, perhaps the quarter shall be quartered, deleterious to the very existence of the nickle nickel, harbinging forsoth, a return to a quieter year of 14 quarter moons, being as such the realm shall use pieces of eight, yea, quartered quarter, which lacks any cents forthwith.

This is the clear winner! You rock, mustangmanbob!
