Mansfield CONNECTICUT Coin show- "Biggest little show in New England" 3/25/18. Who else is going?

The Mansfield CT coin show is having their annual show on 3/25/18 starting at 9:00am. Its a fun show with about 75-80 tables. I have been attending the show for the past few years and it always seems to have good attendance as this part of the country is shunned from the larger coin show circuit. There is a good variety of US coins, world coins, paper money, tokens/medals, bullion, supplies....so something for everyone......There is also a hotdog stand for the food critics. :D

I've met several users from here at the show, so don't be a stranger if you go! I'll be attending this year and I'm interested to see who else is planning on going. I'll takes some pictures and will give an overview of how the show was for me.

I'll be popping my head up at my first coin show since last year's Mansfield/Willimantic. Been going to them since 1978.

Fwiw, I was looking to lighten up on some coin auction catalogs so I posted a thread in the BST forum. Speak up if you have any interest. Set of John Fords - essentially never cracked open, sealed Eliasberg 1 and 2 (1996/1997), Ed Trompeter gold, and some other things. I have a "The Fantastic 1804 Silver Dollar" book and the Scott Travers "Coin Collector's Survival Manual" I'll give away to some deserving collectors....at the CNI table on the right side of the hall.

As a lifetime CT resident and once-upon-a-time member of that club, I always go. Pretty good show, plus my aunt and uncle help sell the refreshments for the Lions club.

I've chowed down on some of those dogs and donuts myself. I remember when the show was held in the VFW Hall(?) with tables quite cramped. But it was the classic local coin show environment with a smoke filled room and a constant buzz in your ears from close proximity to others. Ran into some nice deals at that old location.

I used to attend tha show at the VFW when I was a UConn student in the early 1990s. I don’t think I’ve been back since 1996 or 1997, but I am going to try and get there this weekend. I’ll orobably have the clipped Lincoln cent set in tow if anyone wants to see them.

My first Willimantic/Mansfield show was the last year at the cramped VFW Hall. The year after that they started having it at the high school. I always liked the show, off the beaten path, as it had different things to see. I made some nice purchases there over the years.... counterstamped chain cent, 1835 B-1 quarter, reeded edge half, counterstamped bust quarters from the late Steve Tannenbaum, and an 1804 bust quarter from the late Ira Meltzer along with some other things. I miss seeing Steve and Ira. I always found it an interesting show. Not sure if I'll be able to make it tomorrow, but we'll see.

I used to take a table at this show when I lived in New England. It was a good little show, and my wife and I always enjoyed a meal at an Italian restaurant that was located in a shopping center next to motel where we stayed.

Good show today. Got to spend some time with ShadyDave (who's not shady at all) and Seanq, who showed us his cool set of 1909-date Lincoln clipped planchets. Great stuff Sean. ShadyDave ended up with my Bob Campbell "How to Detect AT coins" vhs tape. A $5 "mercy" purchase. Hey, it bought me a cupcake and some cookies on the way home. Much obliged. I sold some pretty slabbed MS64/65/66 Morgans and some slabbed/circ Libs/Indians. Saw a neat deal of seated and gold coins that were recently bought. An 1877 NGC MS65 seated quarter, old fatty, gold CAC was the star of that grouping, also a very original/pretty and well struck NGC MS64 CAC 1875-cc 20c piece. These might end up at a future Heritage auction. The 1877 looked more like a MS67 than a MS66, no doubt one of the blast white hoard coins from around 30 yrs ago...and now with striking peripheral toning from the sulfur-laden grading insert. I tried to buy some of those seated coins but no go....they're going to auction.

Had a good time catching up with some old friends. Somewhat busy show. Plenty of activity in gold and silver as the higher prices have perked interest. Didn't buy anything though.

I was very happy to finally get to a show in person. I ended up spending more time catching up with friends old and new than I did buying or selling. Though I had a few coins with me, for the kind of stuff I collect, the dealers were simply not in the room. I ended up buying only three low value coins, and after getting a better look at them at home, one of them was probably a mistake. As roadrunner mentioned above, he, ShadyDave, and I had a mini Forum GTG on the floor, it was great to put faces to the names. It was fun to share my set with folks who appreciate the time and effort put into building it.

The show itself seemed very busy, I got there about half an hour after the doors opened and had to park almost two blocks away. Other than the death of parking, the venue was very nice with plenty of room to move through the aisles. Many of the dealers talked up the Manchester, NH show happening next weekend, I would recommend that to anyone who missed out on today.

It was nice to see some familiar faces at the show!

I think there were several dealers who normally attend skipped out because of the overlap with Baltimore this year, but I think the overall turnout was similar to last year...

@logger7 Looks like you took your photos from our corner!

I see a Whalers sweater in the crowd! :)

    I reluctantly became a Bruins fan :/

It was fun to hang out with @roadrunner and @seanq and visit @jdmern table... Its always good to talk and be around fellow coin nerds. I saw a handful of very nice coins including an 1877 seated quarter and some nice CC gold. @Seanq was nice enough to bring his clipped lincoln cent collection and it was quite impressive and clearly a labor of love, thanks again for showing it to us!

I talked with a lot of the dealers and the majority said business was strong. Attendance was strong as always (i was there from around 10:30-1:00) and there were a lot of collectors buying and selling there. As @Connecticoin mentioned you can always find someone with whalers gear there....I was actually wearing my Bruins sweatshirt there!

I bought a few nicely toned world coins, but nothing ground breaking. I was quite hungover from being in Boston the night before, so I didn't buy much along with the eBay bucks promo taking a chunk out of my wallet last week. As @roadrunner mentioned, he sold me this VHS video on "How to tell Artificial Toning on Coins" which I'll be excited to watch :p . I figured when I find a VHS player, I'll find a way to post it to youtube so others can watch it as well. Overall, had fun as always and look forward to the show next year.
