1909-S VDB 1C, Guess the grade if you wish. GRADE POSTED

UPDATE: Thanks for the comments and guesses. It is 65BN CAC. The whack in front of the face breaks my heart. It looks like a little neon flashlight with the luster.

Pulled from an album I forgot about. Graded at Long Beach. CAC did like it. I acknowledge it's easy to cheat by looking at Coinfacts, so feel free to do so if it makes you feel good!

How could you forget about a album with a coin like that in it? :o

I like it a lot. Great looking coin. MS64 on a bad day, otherwise MS65.

They came with a lot I bought a few years back, and this coin was in the wrong slot. I finally took a closer look and popped a few out. There is another really nice RED coin from that same book making it's way through the system.

    MS63-BN

My first thought was MS62BN because I took the diagonal lines on the reverse to be post-mint. However, they appear to be woodgrain type toning, so I would go up to MS63BN.

The detail is great on that one, and not to say the look! Has to be 65RB. I can see why CAC liked it! Gorgeous.

You forgot about a mint state 09-S VDB? Was it behind your original roll of 1932-S quarters?

    +1.

LOL. It was turned upside down in the plain ole VDB slot. The other key dates had been taken out. The 31-S was still there but nothing special. The 1911-P was amazing, RED, and is in for grading. I sent a couple of the nicer toners in with it.

It makes me wonder what the other key dates looked like including the 09-S VDB that was missing from the correct spot!

I would guess 64BN.... likely low, but that ding in front of Lincoln's mouth stands out for me....Cheers, RickO

Sure it's a "nice" coin, a coin collecting classic as we all know...but sorry, i wouldn't pay 65BN CAC money for it with that "whack"

For what the coin would sell for, i wouldn't even consider buying it. It's more or less an Ebay sale coin, someone buying the holder, not the coin.

No one is mentioning the whacks on the cheek and below the eye. Consider that grade a gift from PCGS. Maybe they factored in great eye appeal.

Agreed. I still think it has enough red left to be an RB coin.

did your forgotten about 1920 buff spur you to look in other forgotten albums with potential 4 figure coins in them?

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

Yes. They were the two books that I bought at the same time with a boatload of Redfields a few years back.

I'd have to see the coin in hand to judge its eye appeal. But it's clearly Unc. In terms of hits, you have that whack in front of the face and a vertical hit which is much more subtle in the beard. Minor cabon spots.
I don't know what is considered MS 64 or MS 65 in this series these days. The Wheatie I have is a common date in 6 RD. It has a few minor tick marks that you have to make a point looking for them to see them.

It was graded by PCGS a few weeks ago and CAC yesterday. I feel comfortable with the grade and exactly where I saw it.
