My latest pickup. An 1883 Trade Proof Dollar.

divecchiadivecchia Posts: 6,680 ✭✭✭✭✭

This is my latest pickup in my type set collection. It is my first graded Trade Dollar.

I took 2 scans of the coin and 2 photos with my phone to try and show different aspects of the coin. Let me know what you think.

As always thanks for looking.

Though I would like it even more with some attractive toning, I certainly appreciate it for what it is - a very cool low mintage coin that's not exceedingly expensive.
    Nice pickup!

    Very nice
Surprise at the lack of excessive hairlines on such a large coin for this Pr 61.
Does look like the TPG have gotten tighter.

Thanks for the nice comments, I appreciate them.

@BIGAL2749 I agree, as it looks very clean and free of major marks. I am unable to figure out why it only graded out a PF61.

I bought it because I thought it looked great for the grade.

That looks too good to be true for a 61.

Either hairlines and/or an overaggressive dip would be my guesses as to why, as they can be hard to spot in some photos.

Nice looking coin in any event & thanks for sharing.

@MikeInFL It definitely has hairlines on it, but not anything too distracting. My photos and scans definitely do not do the coin any justice. It has a great mirror finish on both sides that I can see myself in. I've looked at some PF62's and PF63's with more hairlines and larger marks on them. Maybe there is something on the rim that I am unable to see.

    Thank you for you comments.

Beautiful coin indeed.... a PR Trade Dollar is a nice acquisition... I think it looks better than a 61 also.... Cheers, RickO

Nice coin! In looking at the Heritage images, the arm is most likely the reason for the grade, however, it looks 62 to me in spite of that.

@Wabbit2313 Thanks very much for your insight on what could be the cause for the PF61 grade and for your comment. I appreciate it.

Normally this grade on a proof would be due to hairlines from someone wiping it clean. These hairlines may not show up in pictures.
